  1. Seriously? This feels like a "trolling topic" and makes no damned sense at all. I have only a few times ever played a game that had an ending that cared about accrued wealth. And, um... who cares anyway?

    Seriously right back at you.

Little details like this greatly increase the replayability and stuff like this is in dozens of games, hell, it's even in STALKER: The Shadow of Chernobyl and some other FPS games.

Admittedly, it would be a nice little touch. But it doesn't affect me wanting to replay a game.

STALKER! I love that game! :)

  2. It was well worth its price tag. While a bit shorter than I would have liked, it's hardly too short. My final play time, I believe, was just over 22 hours. That's not much less than what it took me to finish Dragon Age 2, as a comparable.

The combat is fantastic, the story is good, and since I'm not obsessed with MP, a lack luster MP isn't going to deter me from praising the game.

If Obsidian made DS4 and it was the same length as this one, I'd buy it on release.

Agreed. I'm at 14 hours and i'm not finished yet.

I also agree with what you said about DS4. Obsidian had my confidence with FO:NV, one of my all time favorite games to play. DS3 has cemented them as a good developer in my book. I look forward to future products from them.

In the mean time, my mind is just spinning with DLC possibilities for this game. I'll likely suffer a stroke when they announce it (okay maybe not a stroke, but i'll be excited :) )

DS4 - if it happens - will rock the house, y'all. The waiting for DLC is killing me too. I've just finished it, so I'm really wanting some more. I'm so RPG hungry right now I just bought Sacred 2!

  3. AP, btw, is not a 'hidden gem'. It's a horrible game that sold more than it deserved to, and was Obsidian's worst game to date from the ones I played.

Did you ever get around to playing it for longer than the first mission outside the tutorial yet? Unless my memory is foggy, you gave up on it at or just after Saudi, without actually getting to the meat and potatoes of the game (ie. the main bulk of the game, and where the choices actually show).

To be fair, if AP hasn't got your attention by the end of Saudi, you can be pretty sure it's not your kind of game.

  4. I can't wait to see what their first DLC is going to be. And we know its going to happen, its an option on the main menu =)

Unless its the biggest tease of all time.

I'm pretty sure that comes as standard with a lot of games, DLC planned or not. It could just be a mechanic to get the pre-order special items.

Very true. This game is ripe for DLC though. It's an excellent canvas for pretty much whatever they wanted to do with it. This combat system and these characters could easily fit into several game modes.

It has potential to have some great DLC, and the forums are brimming with ideas for this. Fingers crossed. If not, I'll just come back and play through it again when it's not so fresh in my memory.

Could even rob an idea from FEAR 3 with their game mode "F**king RUN!". You're chased by a wall of death and forced to advance quickly through waves of enemies. If any character hits the wall, you lose. If any character is downed, and then killed, you lose. Very very intense and would actually fit in DS3 even though Fear 3 is a FPS. Its the theory I like.

If I was wealthy beyond measure, i'd personally fund Obsidian to make a Last Stand mode. I know I sound like a broken record on that issue, but its because when I think about the potential there I get giddy with excitement.

I'm really hoping for that too. An arena would be great. It's all about the replayability.

  5. btw, it would be nice if the word "loading" was removed from PC version when you engage dialog cutscenes, it lasts a milisecond so there is no purpose to it. It just reminds us that consoles are decrepit last gen hardware and that you haven't bothered to properly develop the PC version.

    I have never seen that...

There are a ton of details in the game that make it obvious that it was built for console and ported to PC where it should have really been done the other way around.

But then you would have had a ton of bugs and issues with the console versions, so someone is always going to have a problem depending on what system they have.

  7. "Alpha Protocol didn't have a sequel because Sega didn't allow it, they have the rights for it as far as I know.

Another publisher could have seen that there was something fresh in the design and the cult following would have at least got some DLC.

There's an Obsidian interview knocking around somewhere that says Sega didn't want AP2 or further support for AP, but that's not to say that the mechanics that made it such a hidden gem wouldn't find their way into another IP of a different name... "

AP didn't have a sequel because it was determined it did not do well enough to earn one by the people paying for AP's production. Seriously douybt another publisher would have green lighted it. If Sega felt DLC/sequel were worthwhile despite AP doing poorly they would have done it.

AP, btw, is not a 'hidden gem'. It's a horrible game that sold more than it deserved to, and was Obsidian's worst game to date from the ones I played.

That's a matter of opinion, though. Obviously some people liked it due to the 700K sales. Personally, I really enjoyed AP. It had it's faults but it also had some nice ideas too. Well written dialogue and a very good story imo.

  8. Oh and just to add, I did purchase the 360 version. I like PC games better most of the time, but DS3 just felt like it's just meant to be played on a console especially control wise.

Definitely no argument there. DS3 would have felt strange to me if I had played it on the PC too.

My PC, my gamepad, and my big screen TV take issue with that. Oh, and actually, I've found I prefer to play Dungeon Siege 3 with a controller on my monitor when playing alone. Only on co-op do I prefer to switch to the TV.

Okay, let me rephrase that. DS3 would have felt strange to me if I wasn't playing with a gamepad.

  9. AP didn't sell well enough to get any post game support or a sequel. So you guys thinks that's good? Sounds rubbish to me and especially sad because it was a great new IP. It didn't grab enough cross over fans because the shooting 'was too weirdo rpg hybrid' or whatever peoples complaints are. I liked how the shooting was heavily influenced by your stats reminded me of Deus Ex.

Alpha Protocol is also a much better game than DS3, the story reactivity is extremely fun.

Regardless of whether or not its better it needs to sell better to have a chance for post game support or a sequel. Slim chances I reckon but I may eat my words later.

  11. They do have the rights to AP iirc. It's just that I doubt anyone will be publishing a sequel when the game was panned by reviewers and had mediocre sales, cult following or not.

I thought that Sega still had the rights? That's why in interviews they said all the mechanics could easily find their way into a new IP.

  12. damn then this game will die a slow grueling death

But it'll be a lot of fun while it dies. Loving it.

Obsidian, do try and get the rights for this. You've been doing some great work lately and I think you'd smash Mass Effect off the top spot of console RPG's. IMO, this AP is better than Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2.

  13. I'd love a sequel too.

Reviewers that said the game mechanics ruin the game were a little too extreme. The shooting and stealth take a little getting used to, but once you level up enough, you become a bad-ass and it's really satisfying to be able to mix stealth and gunplay on the fly. And the story... Wow. RPG games that everyone has compared AP to can take some serious lessons in storytelling from this little baby.

Sega have no idea what a big mistake they've made. I really hope Obsidian get the rights back so they can work on a sequel.

In the meantime, I've got a few playthroughs to go before I get bored of this little gem.

  14. I just picked this up really cheap. Can't believe I hadn't played this! Fantastic game.

It has its flaws, like the stealth system is a little broken, but I'm playing as a run and gun kind of guy so it doesn't affect me too much. Love the story and how my choices truly decide how it plays out.

I've been playing this all day and always get excited to see what choices I can make next.

If any game is worthy of a sequel, it's this.

  15. Well, by all accounts Obsidian still aren't aware of the camera problem.

Common sense dictates they are. What's not certain is how much they can change this in a patch, and how fast.

Agreed. I think I worded that previous post a little less thoughtfully than usual.

I'm totally with you, with the amount of issues raised in these forums, it will be very difficult to please everyone with a patch.

I'm not going to pretend to fully understand sales and marketing strategies, but I think as long as the game is successful, a lot of players may have to wait for an expansion to please them.
