  1. Remember this is most of the team that made the original Diablo 1 (and I think Diablo 2).

ugh, really? :o sure doesn't look or play better than the original, it's ok for a clone, but for a successor... I really hope they make it more like Severance only 10 times bigger this time around :)

  2. Not sure I am following. You are complaining because you built your characters a particular way and then... were able to play them that way?

ah, I should've made it more clear: that was on my second playthrough (or third...). the first time I did it by the book and it didn't provide a challenge.

anyway, in my wxperience BG2 had a lot to offer combat-wise. maybe it's a matter of approaching the game from a certain point of view. it didn't work in DA for me. can't say BG2 felt like hack n slash. DA did

  3. meleeing with mages. You certainly can't do that with DA mages who would be killed if they are targetd for more than 6 seconds

only that's exactly what I did in DA, you know, there's a trait that makes knowlege count as strenght towards weapon and armor checks. well, I used it with both my mages and meleed all the way home.

not sure why'd you want to neglect spells in BG2, there were a lot of kick-ass scrolls lying around just waiting to be used. mages are actually overpowered in most Bio games, always make the endgame a walk in the park. not the case with DA though, and that sucks

  4. Dragon Age was created (or at least heavily hyped) as a throwback to Baldur's Gate 2

well, it still doesn't mean Bio succedeed  BG2 had a fair amount of tactical combat (IWD had a lot more, though, now there's a strategic game). but DA didn't even come close to that. I mean, I remember the epic battles I used to have in BG2 and it's expansion, and my custom-made party only made it all better. I can't say I had too many of those in DA. like I said I can only remember two (well, 3, but the third didn't involve a lot of tactics, just lasted for 30 minutes): the random encounter somewhere inside capital city during my first visit - with one of those lich-things popping out of phylacteries; and the battle with Flemeth. everything else in DA looked like this: you spot an enemy, send your whole team over there, keep switching targets - all enemies dead. not exactly what I'd call strategic gaming.

  5. top down view is pretty much required for strategic rpg games like this

only it's not a strategic game

    Those are action/RPG not CRPGs.

the only difference between action-rpg and plain rpg is the number of mouse clicks. if in traditional rpgs you click your mouse once to make your character kill something, in action-rpgs you click once for each action, hence the prefix. everything else is the same. today the "action" part is there to sell the game better. I like both and don't care whether it's ARPG or RPG, because you still can't jump in any of 'em :ermm:

  6. they try too much to stick to the canon fantasy crpg, sacrificing originality again and again only to fail to provide the fantasy crpg players actually wanted to see. I hope this AD&D curse will be lifted by the time they're working on their next fantasy game...

  7. kill rogue = win.

they should just kill the whole classes thing, make the character able to learn both combat skills and magic, restricting access to some branches depending on choices made by the player. like in Diablo or something (or like custom classes in Morrowind even), will save them even more time and me - the frustration :shifty:

  8. hmmm, actually, in DA:O I only used the top-down view a couple of times - in some fights involving kiting and when killing Flemeth. everything else was so easy I didn't even have to switch characters (I only wiped once to that other dragon on the top of the mountain, still don't think there's a fair way to beat it). and since I spent most of the time running around looking for shimmering portions of ground, using the close-up camera made more sense. they can remove the top-down anytime, but they better do the same to my party. because DA:O only had small bits of tactical combat, and even the inventory is shared, so we don't get to use them as mules. I say make DA2 an action/stealth game like Alpha Protocol. this is obviously what they'll do to DA3, so why wait 'til then?

  9. themes subtly changing depending on your reputation with the community you're visiting

    heh, this is kinda cool

I also suspect that I'll end up using the radio of the Pipboy as a soundtrack most of the time.

that's exactly what I did in F3. listening to the DJ talking most of the time. (I guess it's just me, while playing GTA, I'd always put on in-game radio talk shows)

  10. ME series, and DA's stories are just as good as the BGs.

aha, keep telling that to yourself o:) BGs and Icewind Dale were second only to Planescape: Torment. everything after BG2 was a free fall, and Bio is yet to get out of that pit (looks like it's bottomless though)

  11. you come off as simply being silly and arrogant and foolish to think the brand is all for Monte Carlo when it isn't.

what the hell, man? people like monte carlo are the ones that kept Bio alive all these years, then come xbox360 Bio suddenly forgot all about it and jumped happily on the mass effect bandwagon, sure they got to pay the bills and all, but it's not Bio anymore, it's EA Canada and they may rot in hell for all I care. I still have my Obsidian to make me happy once in a while

  12. Techs have the best starting weapon? No. Techs have the third best starting weapon. The Officer's Vindicator is by far the best starting weapon and the Autocannon is also damn good.

well, it's a waste of a slot going as officer, so scratch that Vindicator, and autocannon slows you down. the assault rifle on the other hand has autoaim which is pretty damn nice. and techs weld/unweld a lot faster, although it's useful only on Insane

  13. man, whenever I play, there's no way people will let me be a Tech :) Techs have the best starting weapon in the game, have the ability to block doors and if they bring ammo, they're invaluable. I'm always forced to go as a medic (the girl) though

  14. well, not counting the lack of LAN support? )

first of all the new character design. game keeps getting more and more cartoonish, just like Warcraft did. It totally screwed up the WC franchise for me, I'm afraid the same will happen with D.

then there's th game mechanics. you know how D2's interface relied on just 2 buttons, both on the mouse? that was very neat (Borderlands went even further, just the "fire" button's enough) and I'm afraid they're gonna change the combat system. that won't work for me. but at the same time leaving it as it was in D2 wouldn't be enough for me either. they'll have to come up with something revolutionary. and I don't think they can.

you brought up the new classes already. as for the rest, I believe it will be a game very well done, but it won't be the game I wanted it to be )
