  1. You can edit the OCs if you want. Nothing is stopping you.

    You could, but it is hard to share your edited content with others without porting over the whole OC to do it. Especially with the NWN2 module set up.

    Is your reading comprehension poor or do you have a rebuttal for my post (2 above yours)?

    To write down all the ways to easily make changes would take an unhealthy amount of time, but any given change you would want to make I could reasonably say that after 10 seconds of thought I could come up with an easy way to make it happen and distribute.

  2. Well, actually you CAN modify the OC. There were a few mods that did in in NWN1. Like the one that made Mischa real henchman in SoU. But it is not a simple process compared to the IE games or the ES games. It would require making the hak with the mods, saving a copy of the OC modules, attaching the hak then the modified mod could be downloaded. In NWN2 the modules are so large it would not be practical.

    Actually I like the NWN 1 & 2 modding concept better because it is more flexible. If all that could be modded in NWN1 was the OC then we would not be talking about NWN2 today because NWN would have gone nowhere with just the out of box OC. The toolset made that game what it was.

    In general, putting the few hours into learning what the various file types are, what crappy community tools are available to edit them and what they do makes modding easier and lets you build much faster. ERFs are so 2002 (that's the format for hak, mod, erf) ;) If I were distributing a change in an NWN1 OC in hak form, I'd probably recommend people use the hak editor in the utils folder to swap a modified module.ifo file into the module after backing up the original of course (that's where module level settings are kept), and playing with the hak list in the NWN1 official tools is a nightmare besides.

    Off the top of my head for NWN2:

    - If you want to adjust some scripts or conversations: simply dump those (small in file size) resources into the campaign folder. That could handle romances, cutscenes, a few other types of things easily, but might result in an unpatchable game if the user didn't say back up the original OC campaign directory like of course you would say to do :aiee:

    - Like Bio stuff, many things are instanced to their specific area. This means you can't change a very small text file to change say all lichy guys Garius hangs with or the red dragon with the ~10kb file that's needed to do the job (the utc file for a creature). However, area data is in 5 seperate files, the one of interest for changing stores or placed objects is the .git file, which is going to be way smaller and compressable than the terrain file (for exteriors). Toss your modded one in the campaign folder...I'd give it good odds on working (haven't tried).

  3. Yeah, I agree with Gromnir... isn't the Proper D&D Rules Implementation Crowd rather small? :lol:

    It's at least three people so far, two of them working for Obsidian. Luckily that's out of the 52 people that haven't deleted NWN2 forever, right (we know no one who's played DnD would buy this game)? That's more than play Arcane Archer ;)

    Luckily, the crappy community can easily do a fairly decent job of it (don't remember if we're able to drop a spell per level off the cleric's per day list, but it's easy to check for a placeholder if you wanted to make this change), excepting presentation with the rest of the spells (granted feats would probably be the easiest option). While Gromnir is here complaining, I'm going to take the Death domain twice so I can...

    You may use a death touch once per day. Your death touch is a supernatural ability that produces a death effect. You must succeed on a melee touch attack against a living creature (using the rules for touch spells). When you touch, roll 1d6 per cleric level you possess. If the total at least equals the creature
  4. Nice. Two companies, Infogrames-Atari, that suck.

    It was pretty likely, sucks no less for it being confirmed.

    This is partly why I'm interested in Dragon Age; Bioware's making their own rules rather than using spendy D&D rules that weren't designed with computer games in mind.

    To my mind, that seems to be about the only appeal left to Dragon Age (I prefer multiplayer and/or moddable games for the most part).

  5. I don't mean to sound like Tarkin, but I grow tired of asking this... where does Iraq become relevant to the issue of Scooter Libby? Alright, now I think about it I mentioned it earlier, but I shouldn't have.

    Off by one letter. Iran primarily iirc (at far as what Libby was on trial about).

    Ok, what WithTeeth said simultaneously, but plenty there to quibble with.

  6. During his 7 years in office Geroge W Bush has issues 0 pardon and comuted the prison penalty from 1 perjury conviction

    Wow, no one called this obviously lie? I guess no one questioned Limbaugh, Russert, O Reilly, etc when they say it either. Sigh.

  7. yeah, i've heard the biggest problems are in the toolset. those definitely fall into the category of bugs that should be fixed. however, even with such bugs that are apparent in every system, regardless of mitigating factors, diagnosis can be difficult.

    I really feel for the designers, it must have been sheer hell to try and work with the toolset in the state it was before release. Unless the corruption issues came with one of the patches.

    They used a versioning system (yucky SourceSafe, at least it was during NWN2 dev), you should use one too.

  8. Marcus is definitely entertaining, it's just hard to keep him alive when you go against enemies with auto-fire or the really big guns. Then I tend to go Vic, Skynet and Myron so I can be as scummy as I want (Vic with sniper or gauss, Myron with a needler or one of the energy pistols--nothing like a double dose of Jet in Myron...you can only do that once with Cassidy) :sorcerer:

  9. Scored a crit of 1800 damage once with the Vindicator :sorcerer: Never crit with a rocket launcher that I can recall though, that might be crazier.

    Super sledge is some good fun, but it's really annoying how you hit someone than they slide far enough away you need about 3 AP to get to them for another hit.

  10. +Paladin 5/ champion of torm 10/ sorcerer 25

    My character's highest stat is CHA so that each class can gain benefits from it. Paladin gains cool bonuses that can even stack with those of a champion of storm. Champion also gains bonus feats, which can be extremely useful. With the sorcerer class going into epic levels, I can cast up to lv9 spells, I can pick an epic spell and I can also pick the Automatic still spell I-III feats.

    If my character is an Aasimar, he gains even more bonuses, and I thus have the ultimate armored mage.

    Spell resistance being your Achilles heel? If you're casting practically anything besides Acid Arrow at your enemies, eep.

    Many things are module specific to determining a best or even better build. What items are available, how specifically have Bio mistakes been fixed, etc...

    Bard is good all around, always has been. For example, your mage is cursed and taunted (well auto-still probably negates the spell failure portion of taunt in NWN1 or 2) being among other things at -12 ac or so, while the bard probably has his pretty much equivalent BAB to a gish boosted by song, warcry and so on.

  11. Lokey, why do you accept what 90% of these scientists are saying? What makes you so certain that these scientists are right when science itself is never certain. Question everything!

    Actually I don't. The figure refers to the expectation value of the Climate Panel which is 90%, as opposed to the 50% that the 2001 report had (in reference to the human activity component of global warming). But I've only read the executive summary, not the portions of the report currently available or its references and so on. I don't have an informed opinion on the matter, but that doesn't mean I won't be more dismissive of a gotcha article from a random marketing group either :)

    There has been 99.x% agreement in polls of scientists (or scienceticians ;) ) about aspects of warming I can vaguely recall...wouldn't put too much stock in that anyway. Science by survey, ick.

    Also science can be right when expectation values or various statistical correlations are low or experimental error is high... While your middle sentence is true, it carries baggage when not used in a scientific context. Quantum electro-dynamic effects are "only" theory after all too (predictions from same being testable to about 1 part in a billion and verified), or electrons themselves for that matter.

  12. i said many are afraid for fear of being outcast. you do recall the CNN weather expert saying meterologists should have their certifications revoked if they choose not to "believe," right? duh.

    taks

    It's very hard to look at your political stances and who you back, then your location and not laugh. Also, I'm sorry I referenced something outside the limited scope of your knowledge :)

    Why do you not have to prove your random assertions? Who are the many and why are they afraid of being outcast? Why don't they accept better paying/fewer hours/etc jobs at think tanks to say the opposite of what they're saying now?

  13. grrr... ok, simple concept, there is no such thing as scientific proof, therefore, debate will always continue for any scientific hypothesis/theory. heck, the most tested theory on the planet, relativity, is still being debated! furthermore, this particular debate is hardly over, in spite of what many seem to claim. more and more scientists are coming forward as "denialists" w.r.t. the climate every day. if anything, the debate is only heating up.

    taks

    Poor Raman and Mie, so little love. Can't think of a branch of science that doesn't :) spectroscopy of some stripe.

    Also, I wouldn't call someone that denies we have a climate even a bad scientist. Have a name for the wall of shame...or was that just propaganda?

  14. ...win2003 server. With DNN its all MS required software, I need nothing else then whats included in my small business server 2003 box. Having the site all on one platform is just less headaches when it comes to updates, bugs and the like.

    Really hope that was a freebie.

  15. Diamond, scooped me on Beryl. I should probably get that running on my 200MMX, try that with Vista AeroGlass--which isn't even included in the basic package :lol:

    Cooler unnecessary effects: screenshottt7.th.png

    Most importantly the 3d Desktop:

    cubewh0.th.png

    Speaking of new operating systems...great word of mouth on PCLinuxOS (I think it's KDE-Beryl as default). First release version hitting soon.

  16. Thread Pruned: I am hoping that a some more constructive feedback may be offered to Zellsillusion ... hope springs eternal you know ...

    To get rid of the zillions of intro logos go into nwn.ini (preferably the one in your documents folder) under [Display Options] add this line:

    Disable Intro Movies=1

    In your board profile options, add:

    Disable Volourn=1 as well :blink:

  17. The point is that, to make area creation easier, the design team used a toolset that looked ugly.  ...ramps instead of trails in mountain areas...  caves that look more like square niches...

    It's not the choice to use tilesets that resulted in a lackluster element of the end product. Remember, you're talking about a game that was designed for a middle-of-the-road machine in 1998 or 99 among other design choices.

  18.     I) A script to disable/fizzle/or otherwise interrupt all spellcasting within the area. Can you see a pattern yet.

    There is a location in the NwN2 campaign that you can use to investigate this (

    Duskwood

    ).

    Not exactly helpful. What Obsidian did was apply an EffectSpellFailure() effect when you entered the area. Removing the effect is more than one line of code though--applying it is just on area enter something like

    void main()
    {
       effect SpellFail = EffectSpellFailure();
       object Target = GetEnteringObject();
       ApplyEffectToObject(DURATION_TYPE_PERMANENT, SpellFail, Target);
    }

    but there's another option: ask in the scripting forums about the default spellhook system and how it can do what you want (it's mostly unchanged from NWN1 anyway).

    Minas Tirith could be built, parts would be difficult (you can't walk above another place where you can walk). That's the only limitation, visually it's possible, and not that difficult. As are many of your concerns Lestrad. There's sand and lava textures for example, and if lava weren't there there's the effects editor to make it in anyway. The real solution is to find someone who wants to make something similar to what you do who has knowledge of the areas in which you currently aren't too strong in.

  19. Might be a bit too dense on objects for background scenery (use fewer, larger trees, don't have the farther ones cast shadows...) Grass is really brutal: take it easy on the stuff, we don't all have 8800s. Nice lighting, sky looks great.

  20. Latest gamespot screens. Game looks fine to me

    Yes.. but notice how they on both pictures are avoiding the close-up of ground textures!!1!

    It's a conspiracy!!

    Same problem as the NWN2 pics from GenCon. Camera image of a screen that isn't very flat instead of a screen cap: do you think the HUD is actually going to be warped like that?

    The pics Bokishi included: impressive. All but guaranteed to be a slideshow on most of our comps today, but still impressive.

  21. "All NWN1 portraits were crappy."

    No.

    I agree. Some of the portraits were awesome, mainly the elves. They had some decent looking halflings and dwarves also.

    Most of the male portraits were crappy. I'd say about 85%. The majority of female portraits were good though. Too bad I don't play females. There were a lot of pretty good custom ones, too bad I never found a single portrait that matched how I pictured my character. And when I finally found one that almost did, there was no way to duplicate it with the crappyness that was NWN1 heads. I mean seriously, what was with those damned mustaches.

    Unfortunately this proved impossible to be changed by the community. The rumors of a debug command in the game to generate a portrait set from a variety of different image types were entirely unfounded.
