  1. The vibe I get from the trailer is a mish mash of Gibson, Bladerunner, and GITS, neck frillies and Don Quixotegoats aside. I don't really suppose any of that should be a surprise. The trailer is quite nice, though, and I really liked the theme music they got goin on. Pity about the "streamlining".

  2. Wait, are the posters at Bethsoft upset about the merging of Big Guns into other skills?

There was some knee-jerk ugliness last night, when there was no real information. But quite a few people actually seemed positive towards the idea, seeing as Mr. Sawyer seems to have fairly good instincts about his mechanical tweaks.

  3. I hope they reintroduced strength requirements for weapons too, I think it would complement the system rather well.

Strength requirements for big guns, perception for small guns, perhaps intelligence for energy? I'd go for something like that. The merge wouldn't even bother me if something like that occured. So long as overall we don't winde up with an even less balanced skill system and level cap.

I know they've said the game will go up to thirty, but that won't really be a problem if we get fewer points and more skills to dump them into.

Strength for all weapons would suffice :p with heavy weapons being wielded by only particularly strong characters you'd eliminate the problem of sneak characters the occasionally pull out a mingun and clear off a room full of heavily armed Nightkin.

Energy weapons is still separated from Firearms, and I personally don't think that small arms need a requirement at all.

I really doubt that the Obsidian team can pull off a system even less balanced than Fallout 3 anyway.

To be clear, I'm not thinking of the requirements as hard thresholds for use, I'm thinking of them as tiered consequences, introducing things like increasingly severe gun sway or increased critical failure rate.

[edit]: After thinking about it for a minute, I like your idea more than mine.

  5. - The small and big weapons skills are merged into one weapon skill.

This bothered me at first, but I'm guessing that Special is being made more important to your effectiveness with weapons, instead of just lifting your baseline competency. Hopefully Sawyer can weigh in at some point :p

  6. Damn, it's beautiful.

Agreed. And it will cost $100.00. And Ill probably still buy it. :)

Gamestop is listing $69.99 for pc, $79.99 for consoles.

    [edit]: if that's accurate, I think it's a heck of a deal.

  7. Damn, it's beautiful.

I know, right? They really went for the full court press/hail Mary, or some other sports analogy that I don't actually understand.

Who ever put this thing together seems to have really scoured every applicable fo:nv forum for all the best ideas.

  8. Mark Morgan > Audio Turned Off > Inon Zur

    jus' sayin'.

I personally used the 'alternative soundtrack' since I couldn't stand the Oblivion-ish themes of Zur.

Even if I try to detach them from the game they're so ... soulless... I hope he does a better job on New Vegas.

How was his work on Tactics?

    Better than FO3, I'd argue.

^oh come on, one minute apart?^
