  1. I suspect that Obs would see more money from 200k sales of PE than they did from FO:NV. But I do actually think Obs will do better than that, assuming the game is good and reviewed well.

However you can't use FO:NV as Obs sales standards, a lot came from FO3 and Bethesda which many gamers still think made NV. Sort of like how people still think bio made KotoR 2. Alpha Protocol is really the only real comparison, but even then you could make the case that PE has a lot more pull(legacy/nostalgia) or that AP was a AA game.

And I really don't think bio moved DA:I to November to stomp PE sales, it's probably not even a blimp on EA's radar. If it sells a million, then it might be a blimp, but a small one at that.

  2. That said, this doesn't look very good. Either the game's a mess and they are taking all the time they can physically have to finish it into some semblance of shape... or November's less crowded this year than it's been in the last few and they're profiting of it to give their first game on the new engine and after two... controversial ones an extra layer of polish. Still, colour me worried.

My guess it has something to do with MP, nothing has been said about the MP, apart from 'it has it'.

  3. So saw Chris Q&A Panel. Was very interesting.

So I asked about Obsidian doing different genres in the future. Chris response was that they have an unannounced game from a publisher in the works that we'll hear about in the next year.

    Other questions were:

What Chris did in Alpha protocol. Apparently he only came onto the project 2 years into production, watched a lot of 24, enjoyed that the timed dialogues stressed the play testers as much as combat and that Obsidian built a mo-cap studio for the game that is now used as a place where the team has DnD nights. Said it was a learning experience.

Questioned about PoE and where pendulum swung between focus story/characters/world creation/combat. Chris response was that he feels that PoE was close to Baldur's Gate feel.

Questioned about the White Wolf license. Chris said he loves the license and he and Obsidian would love to obtain it and make another Vampire game like Troika.

Questioned about his favourite event in FTL. He said his favourite was the new race which devours ships.

Was asked about his thoughts about crowd funding and whether it had a ceiling. His thoughts were that it doesn't and we'll see kickstarters with AAA funding levels as people get more and more comfortable with crowd funding.

Question about Ulysses and the foreshadowing in the FO:NV DLC. Said he was disappointed that Ulysses didn't make the main game, and was glad that Obs was able to put him in as an antagonist in one of the DLC. Said that Obs was able to add foreshadowing to the DLC because Bethesda committed to four DLC's. Then went on to how obs had done that with kotor 2 hoping they would get a crack at 3.

Questioned about an Obs Koto3 3. Said while he and Obs would love to do it, Disney/Lucasart have their own thing/thoughts/plans.

Question about Wasteland 2. Talked about his love for the original and how WL2 reactivity and that gamers would be seeing new things in their 2nd and 3rd playthroughs.

Was asked about the DnD license and if Obs would be willing to do another one. Chris said they would love to, and would love to do it in the same way as PoE.

    No one asked about romances.

  4. Part 2:

Oi I saw some tactical combat here, I like. Graphically excellent, the dragon fight looked good, and the areas did seem large, all in all I like what I saw.. However the dialogue wheel( :x) and those god damn mage animations, why does it have to be a dancing mage?

  5.

I'd settle for option to kill her, preferably in a way she actually stays dead :p

Every party-based RPG desperately needs a murder companion in their sleep option.

Now that is a feature that I can get behind. It should be implemented in DA:I. But I doubt bio will let us off their beloved creations.

I don't even remember any characters from DA:O...

After the character tidbits of DA:I companions I think I'll be fondly recalling not just the DA cast, but the DA2 cast too.

Hey, if you're going to murder companions just because they're creepy and screwed up, then you'd end up facing the king of shadows alone with the animated suit of armor.

When a god knows how old druid elf, claims to have been watching you for years(including watching you bathe), it does not endear you to them, in fact it makes you very, very nervous.

To be honest though, Qara would probably be the only one on the murder list... Oh wait Grobnar and Casivir, oh and the 'know githzerai', especially her.

  6. I know I can rely on you to ask the most important question

" is there going to be Romance in PoE 2 "

    :dancing:

How did I know you would say this? I think I may be psychic.

Ask him something completely off the wall, like if he ever pooped on someone's chest.

I'll admit it, there is more chance of me asking this question than Bruce's.

Anyway, you can ask him about Kickstarters. Would Obsidian be looking to do them more frequently? Or is there a plan to have them presented every two or three years apart? Any plans to do different genres, sci-fi, horror, lovecraftian, etc.

Different genres, or more importantly, an Obsidian sci-fi setting was my own thoughts on my question to Chris.

  7. So Avcon is apparently a gaming/anime convention in Adelaide July 18-20. I was asked by a friend to attend with them, at first I wasn't too interested as I didn't think there would be anything/one worth seeing(who comes to Adelaide?). However when checking the guest list, I saw the Mr Chris Avellone is a guest and is holding a Q&A. So surprise I'm now going.

So my question in this? Anyone have any good questions they would like me to ask? (Assuming I get the chance)

Despite the pro-romance equals more sales crowd likes to claim, romances have not caused bioware games to sell more or nail the mass market.

Can you provide some links to support that because I don't believe it. Romance is one of main reasons that a large segment of Bioware fans support there games. But I can't say its the only reason because many people would still buy there games if Romance was excluded. I guess you would have to do a poll where you have 4 factors and you ask people to rate them in order of significance around what is the most important consideration when they buy an RPG? Romance would obviously be one of the four

Romance is a niche Bruce, not a mass market draw.

  9. Draft Day! This is where things start to get fun. Daryl Morey isn't afraid to make big moves, but he will only move Lin if he already has an agreement in place with one of the big FA's.

Honestly, does Carmelo make Houston that much better? I just don't see Anthony, Harden and Howard making it work, be fun to watch though. Carmelo to the Bulls, now that would work.

Basically a cap clearing move for the Mavs, but giving up Larkin is tough.  Chandler has one year left at $14.5 million, and Felton has one year at $3.8 million.  Calderon still has three years left on his 4 yr, 28 million $ deal.

Mavs will have a decent team next year, especially if they nab Deng/Lowry in FA.

  10. Anyways, by and large, DA2 characetrs were better than DAO ones.

    No.

It'd be easier and more palatable to be friends with the darkspawn for some people I suspect. :p

I would rather The Architect as a companion than most of the DA2 cast.

Not sure what the score is for. You don't think Obsidian should go the Bioware route and do rpgs for the mass market like Bioware have done?

Bethesda games have constantly massively outsold bioware games. Better to follow their mass market appeal. Besides NV already showed they do it better anyway.

Despite the pro-romance equals more sales crowd likes to claim, romances have not caused bioware games to sell more or nail the mass market.

  11. Picked up Original Sin, since I've always enjoyed Larian games.

Can't really think of any other games that I'm interested in. Maybe Dark Souls 2 but, haven't really played the original despite having it for a while. Would of bought DR3 but already have the console version.

  12.

On the Witcher forums some are already calling for Ciri to be bone-able. Never mind the fact that she's Geralt's adoptive daughter...  :x

" The great avalanche of Romance in RPG is upon us, let us embrace it with open arms "

    :wowey:

And so it starts. Promancers are coming.

  13. I'll hold off for now

To be honest, I wouldn't get it at all. I've loved the X games, they're something unique in the spacesim genre, more economy based than combat. They have always been rocky at launch, but what was there was enough to make you think once this is patched/modded it's going to be good. With X-Rebirth I never thought that. Barring an exceptional expansion, I don't see any future for it. Could be wrong of course.

I would recommend keeping a closer eye on the new Elite, that looks fantastic.

  14. New patch, details:

Project Update #43: Early Access Update #2
    Posted by DoubleBear Productions
We’ve got a major new update to the Early Access build for you today!

We’ve added character creation, basic goals (experience system), two new locations, two new random encounters, combat bark functionality (note – allies will eventually have unique barks, grabbing from generic list right now), an ambient sound system, and many bug fixes and combat balance additions (although combat is getting even more polish/balance soon.) This update introduces the rest of the functionality that forms the backbone of the entire game. From here on out, much of the work goes into improving on and building out the systems of the game rather than adding completely new functionality and screens.

Also, keep in mind that the updates only represent a small amount of the work in the game and that the majority of our work is going toward our progression playthroughs of the game. This includes maps, characters, events, weapons, enemies, neutral AI, and minor systems that are getting added or tweaked constantly these days. Crisis Events have turned out especially well – they’re definitely feeling spot on to our original outline and navigating the subleader/shelter political layer is as unique a gameplay experience as we hoped it would be. If you were looking forward to putting a lot of hours in the final release of Dead State, you will not be disappointed. And as soon as the update goes out, we’ll go back to making more maps and implementing additional dialogues to make sure that the roads out of Splendid will take you to an ever-increasing amount of destinations. Think the Coyotes are a threat? Oh, just you wait…

As always, please feel free to contact us here, on Steam, on our boards, and let us know what you think or if you’re having any problems. Even if we can’t respond to everything, we do hear you and we’re taking notes. We’re firmly committed to giving you the best survival RPG experience you’ve had, so if you don’t hear from us, it’s probably because our screens are filled with editors, emails, text files, and team chat programs. Thanks for all your patience and continued support!

    Here’s the official changelog:

  15. Darkspawn are easily some of the least imaginative enemies ever devised.  They're basically copy & paste orcs and goblins, without being remotely as interesting as orcs or goblins.  At least with orcs and goblins there is potential for inter-tribe relations and intrigue and they have motivation beyond just "must kill everybody".  Darkspawn are just a blanket copout enemy that mindlessly kill everyone for no purpose other than to kill everyone.  With no semblance of personality and no complex motivation whatsoever they're set up as mindless pincushions for you to stab guilt-free.

DA:O and DA2 darkspawn weren't very interesting. However in Awakenings it showed they could be, the Architect was one of bioware's best antagonists. To be honest I was hoping DA3 might have one as a companion, to flesh them out some more, but I guess they weren't pretty enough to make the cut. Or bio didn't want to deal with the inevitable, why can't we romance them.

Most creatures/races aren't inherently interesting. It's how they are portrayed that makes them interesting(visual/writing). If going forward bio goes DA:A route they'll be interesting, if the keep them as the mindless killing drones of old gods, not so much.
