Is it possible to change class/stats with the console? I don't want to go through Port Maje four different times.
There are mods that allow that.
If you make them 15 right on the prologue though you can go straight to the digsite, grab the papers and complete the quest in 10 minutes get the ship go to Nek and upgrade (console yourself money) so you can go be a pirate and get a feel for the fights.
Another option is to take a saved game you have already and build each of these as a custom companion, console them up, and test them out (even though the stats won't be the same you can still get a feel for how they play and it will help you make your choice.
Hmm...
Playing around with it, I think the Swashbuckler (Devoted or Unbroken/Streetfighter) definitely suits what I'm looking for. Battleaxes (Well, boarding axes) were pretty big pirate weapons, and with the Fighter's defensive buffs, survival shouldn't be too much of a problem if I have a Priest handy. I could go Trickster for extra Deflection if I wanted, but couldn't I also just have potions for more or less the same result?
Marauder is good too, but Lord Darryn's Voulge got nerfed down pretty hard so now it's not the AoE behemoth it used to be. Still cool on-death effects though, and I like dual typed weapons like that.
Though I will say, watching ALL of the enemies surrounding my Swashy get Distracted by Persistent Distraction was really, really cool. And, Nemnok's Cloak is going to be the most important tool for survival, so I want to get that as early as possible.

Any of the 4 can be built to do what you want.
The best advice I could give would be: make them all, console them up to 15ish, console them the gear you want, and go mess around with ship fights to get a feel for how each works. Once you find the one you like the most start a real game with that class, knowing what gear you want to go get.

Dunno how he is in the series, but judging from the clip I'd go with meadow folk, Deadfire for the Raider background, and some combination of Berserker, Devoted or Streetfighter as I think he lacks the devotion for Paladin.
Also, f*ck Euron. Victarion best Greyjoy.
Was gonna go Oceanfolk since you can get a face pretty close to Meadowfolk with some better looking head models.
I tried liking Marauder, but it's a bit too squish for me. So Brute or Swashbuckler.

He definitely has to come from Old Vailia or possibly Rauatai as an Aristocrat. I think the swashbuckler, devoted/street fighter is the best route. I have Eder as that with double sabres. He's great one on one and in a group. I would suggest Oathbreaker's End as it's the only 2 handed battle axe and Magran's Favour as the one handed. If I remember right Euron switches to two axes shortly after boarding.
This video gives a good build idea and armor etc suggestions.

This should be moved to Builds forum so you can get more help.
He does. I absolutely love the rest of that scene - though they didn't give him his eyepatch. Guess they figured it'd be too silly?

Hey guys! So... I've got a quick question for all of you. For my pro-Principi Watcher, I'm trying to capture a certain theme. In order to best demonstrate the 'mood' that I'm going for, I present the following clip.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxBd05c0STo
This is by far the best thing to ever happen to Game of Thrones in the otherwise crappy last few seasons.
Edit: I definitely want to play a character capable of 'leading the charge,' ergo high Deflection/Defenses with good armor. At the same time, I'd like someone with something of a more active playstyle - a frontline character that can take a beating but who doesn't feel passive. Of course, buffs and potions are both things that exist.
So, a howling mad barbarian pirate with crazy eyes who rides the boarding ramp into battle (somehow defying all known laws of gravity) to leave the enemy's deck a bloody swath.
So far, I've come up with a couple of different ideas for how to portray this kind of character.
1. Fighter/Rogue (Swashbuckler) - Unbroken and either Trickster or Streetfighter: Devoted might be better DPS-wise, but I like being able to use multiple different weapons. Basically, the quintessential engagement tank. Uses Trickster for high Deflection/Ripostes or Streetfighter for super high damage while surrounded. Fighter lacks a 'signature move' early on though, unless you count Charge.
2. Paladin/Rogue (Hoy Slayer) - Bleak Walker/Trickster: A Paladin pirate is a bit... odd, but I think Bleak Walker works thematically. I get a nice signature move in the form of FoD, upgraded by the Bleak Walker, as well as (I think) more damage upgrades than the Fighter. The only issue is, I'm kind of limited to Magran's Favor as a "signature weapon," and Paladin - while it has great raw defenses - lacks some of the Fighter's better utility abilities (Like Armored Grace, Unbending, etc.)
3. Berserker/Rogue (Marauder): Berserker/Streetfighter. I like this class. I really do. But it's way too squishy for me. The instant I pull enemy focus (And I do it a lot), I more or less get murdered. Now, there's ways around that, but I want this character to be leading the charge, not having to hang back and pick off squishies.
4. Fighter/Barbarian (Brute): Berserker/Unbroken. This is mostly just a list of Barbarian/Rogue multiclasses, honestly. I feel like this one could be pretty sturdy and still capable of dishing out some good damage. The only issue is that it trades out a ton of the Rogue's very useful abilities: Persistent Distraction, Riposte, etc.
Thoughts? I feel like I've isolated the four best fit builds for this kind of character, but I'm up for hearing more ideas. Of the four I've listed, which do you think works the best? I'm thinking either Brute or Swashbuckler, preference toward Swashbuckler.
Edit: Got one vote towards Swashbuckler - Devoted/Streetfighter (Battle axes) on the Stories subforum.

For Adra Dragon, you can just outlevel the content. It was meant for the vanilla game capped at level 12. But with WM2 and the raise of the cap to 16, it is much more manageable. Still susceptible to Scrolls of Paralysis.
Llenegrath-wise, it has been a while. But I think a Cipher is great for the encounter. Defensive Mindweb and Time Parasite is crazy good. Plus the dragons is susceptible to Mind Control (One is immune to Charmed and another is immune to Dominated. But they are not immune to both). Also Priest as Crowns of the Faithful is just amazing.
Well, I did it! It was quite a brutal fight and I lost my NPC party member in the process, but I don't care. It's done. I can cross that off my bucket list and be satisfied with a job well done.
Aloth was the MVP though. Took out both dragons, including one with a very handy Ninagauth's Killing Bolt.
Probably could have avoided the hireling Priest's death if I'd respecced to Whispers of Treason on my Cipher, but meh. The fight's over, I experienced it. I'm happy.

Hey guys,
So, before I commit to my PoE2 playthrough as a character who's killed both the Adra Dragon and Llengrath, I figured I'd actually want to attempt to complete both of those fights in PoE1. There's nothing gating me from just 'saying' I did, no, but overcoming those two challenges instead of just taking credit for doing so feels more 'right' somehow.
Now, my current PoE1 save resolved the Adra Dragon quest by having her possess Falenroed, so I can't go back and fight her again, and I REALLY don't want to do the whole game over again. So I was hoping someone could help me make a PoE1 save that has those two fights open, and a character similar to the one I'm wanting to play in PoE2 (Bleak Walker Paladin) with a party of custom adventurers geared up to tackle those two challenges.
The long and short of it is, I cleared the game once before, but I want to essentially have the opportunity to kill both the Adra Dragon and Llengrath/the Bog Dragons before I go about saying I did in PoE2. Does that make sense?
Well, in a party, even on PotD, they are not really a challenge. You have to do it solo, then you can say, you have achieved something xd
Yeah nah.

Nice. Guess I need to make a better one than ol' Durance.
-
Hey guys,
So, this is a bit of a weird ask, but hear me out.
I would really like an opportunity to challenge the Adra Dragon and Llengrath/Bog Dragon encounters in PoE1 before I say that I've defeated them in PoE2. It just kind of feels fair that way, you know? That said, I don't exactly want to play through the whole game AGAIN for that, since I resolved both encounters peacefully in my main save. Which is where you all come in.
I'd like to see if someone could make a PoE1 save for me that has a Watcher at max level (Paladin or Fighter, specced as a tank), with a full inventory and enough gold to hire a full party of companions. I want achievements enabled, and no cheats - basically, tackling both encounters at the power level that I would have in my main save without going through all the trouble of acquiring everything again.
Is this kind of save creation even possible?
-
Similar size to swords etc.
Oh, okay! Yeah, I saw that it was basically just a club-sword. It seems like a pretty neat weapon, shame it's not a fast one.
I've pretty much settled on DoC Breastplate throughout the whole game, it seems to give decent-enough armor. And as people have said, a mixed-martial class can make REALLY good use of it. Plus it looks pretty cool.
I take it full plate is more for solo runs when you need every point of armor/you don't have someone else providing support for you?

I like it enchanted for the AoEs, but they’re all decent...2s stun on crit is nice but probably better for a berserker or something.
There are a lot of decent options for off hand...kapana taga and squids grasp make decent tanking picks.
How big is Kapana Taga? In the preview, it looks huge - would it and Magran's Favor go well together?
-
Hey guys,
So, I kind of feel like, before I say I killed Llengrath in Deadfire, I need to actually clear the fight. Unfortunately, this is proving more challenging than expected.
My Watcher is currently a VERY squishy Blunderbuss Cipher. I'm wanting to try to do the fight on Hard, and I was hoping for some custom adventurer builds and strategies. I know this fight is doable, and it's my last big thing to get done in the first game.

I typically choose one or the other (defenses or HPs) to push super high (on non glass-cannon builds). I've found that having both as high as possible is usually defense overkill and negatively impacts other aspects (dps, etc.).
If you go low defense high HPs then you need Crit damage protection, if you go the opposite you need to make sure you have affliction resistances and quick healing options.
If you pump both defenses and HPs then that character is pigeonholed into tanking (holding engagements) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long you plan the party around the fact one guy won't do damage.
Definitely not doing that. My guy is rocking 15 Might, with all gear and buffs taken into account - I don't think that's bad at all for a non-spellcaster especially with Rogue damage boosts.
-
Llengrath sends assassins to kill you. It's only fair to respond in kind.
... Oh that's right, she does. I completely forgot about that.
Yeah, she dies. Plus I think it's kind of funny going in to the Archmage DLC having already killed two of them. Twice, in the case of Concelhaut.

Hey guys,
So, I'm just curious - of all of the multiclasses you've played, which do you think mesh the best aesthetically? By that I mean, in terms of animations/particle effects and the like, which complement each other the best? Alternatively, which just look really, really ugly together - and don't mesh at all.
From my limited experience:
- I think Mindstalker looks really good personally, with the Soul Whip effect and the purples and blues of the Cipher spells going really well with the particle effects on Rogue skills.
- Monk and Rogue fit nicely together from an animation perspective.
- For my worst? Probably Priest/Ranger, just because of how jarring the transition is between Priest's holy spells of holiness and Ranger's abilities and pet attacks. I don't know why, but multiclassing with a Wizard just feels less awkward to me.

Other thing to keep in mind is increasing EHP while keeping actual HP low(ish) is generally better, as it increases the value of your healing. Ofc if you don't have healing then it's all the same.
Kinda. It's really more that the stats and items can go other places to make your character better.
More HP is never going to make your healing less effective. It just moves your health bar less, with the same amount of HPS.
The only thing this really effects is when you want to be blooded or near death. For those builds high hp is really great because it keeps you in those "zones" with less risk.
Not entirely. Let's say you have 1000 EHP - if you have 200 actual HP and you get healed for 40 HP, then you are getting healed by 200 EHP. If you have 400 actual HP, the same healing of 40 HP will only heal you 100 EHP.
The four defense stats and disproportionately OP (under)penetration values make this one of the worst games for trying to optimise around EHP however, so this argument is kinda pointless.
If you have enough HP to take a couple stray crits, plus healing to recover from it then you should be fine investing in other stats/gear/etc.
And since Bleak Walker/Trickster doesn't get really any benefit from being bloodied/near death, aside from racial benefits, 300 HP is fine.

Hey guys,
So, I'm making an import save for the Bleak Walker I plan to be playing for my criminal/Principi route, and while most of the choices are more or less simple enough (Kill everyone as the opportunity strikes, take chances to gain power), the one decision that's proven to be most difficult for me is whether or not to kill Llengrath or to share knowledge with her. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
On the one hand, from a purely class based perspective, the choice is obvious - my Bleak Walker would both relish the challenge of fighting two dragons and an archmage at once, and would be mighty affronted by her essentially treating me like a pest to be eliminated. That's very much in keeping with the Bleak Walker way of handling conflict resolution.
On the other hand, my character is meant to embody shades of the cultured pirate archetype, a mix of Furrante and Aeldys. He's incredibly intelligent and shrewd, all the more dangerous for it, and the idea of pursuing immortality isn't really something he's concerned with. He's still in his prime, after all. He might decide that discussing terms with Llengrath and trying to get at some of her knowledge/make an ally of her would be the wiser of the two options.
From a gameplay perspective, I like having as many avenues for dialogue open for my characters as possible. I know if you spare Llengrath, she shows up in Deadfire and has nice things to say about you. I'm not sure what happens if you kill her, or if the exchange is as robust if it does occur. Also, I haven't yet managed to finish the fight in PoE1 so I feel a bit guilty about saying I did in my created save.

So basically things like Streetfighter/Barbarian/certain pieces of armor like the Bloody Links. I'm running a Holy Slayer right now. My human bonus is nice, but that's really just kind of there as an extra bonus.

Well they are goody-two-shoes for their respective factions. I'd assume doing something evil for the opposing faction will not tick them off. Serafen only hates slavery, but he will happily help Principi and do evil stuff for them. Maia is a cold assassin, and Xoti can be turned murder hobo. I think the only genuinely good companions are Tekehu and Eder.
I think the key would be to rotate the team according to what sort of acts you do towards which faction.
Hell, Eder even seemingly approves of you killing Benweth, going Predator on his skull, and mounting it in your cabin. And I do seem to recall a few places where picking the MURDER EVERYONE choice.
I do know that I got a dialogue with Eder fairly early on when I picked a few 'evil' choices (Robbing the Dawnstars on Ilonet's Pass). Basically he just says "Hey, so, you're acting like a real jerk, what's up with that?/I didn't come here to hurt people" and your response ranges from "You're right, I'm losing sight of who I am" to "I've done really messed up things throughout the first game, where were you?" to "THIS IS WHO I AAAAAAAM!" Not sure about Tekehu.

Also, how badly was Sungrazer nerfed? Would it still make an okay OH weapon or is it just not worth using anymore?
-
Hey hey,
So, I posted a Bleak Walker/Trickster tank build a while back that has, once all bonuses are factored in, a base 10 Constitution and 10% extra HP. Without any additional modifiers, this results in 275 max HP. That'd be a little over 300 when/if I pick up the "Tough" trait, which seems a bit low. Admittedly, I'll have pretty solid Deflection and Defenses, as well as access to regeneration through my co-tank in Pallegina, but it feels like the early game is going to be pretty tough (That said, I sneak past most things anyway).
Something I could do is knock two points each off of Perception, Intellect, and Resolve to give myself 6 extra Constitution, which would give me 350 HP - close to 400 with Tough. Though that doesn't feel like it'd count for that many attacks. My Marauder has something like that, and all it takes is a few hits to his poorly defended self to down him.
So, is it more a matter of defenses, armor value, and health regeneration that determines how much damage you're able to take, and not raw HP numbers?
-
I’m tempted to betray Galawain on purpose to enjoy more challenging boss fights.
Why DOES Galawain opt to make fights easier for you? That seems to go against his whole "thing."
I do like siding with him/Magran/Abydon though because I like their whole thing about personal drive and force of will.
[WIP] Brute Tank (Devoted OR Unbroken/Streetfighter)
in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Characters Builds, Strategies & the Unity Engine (Spoiler Warning!)
Posted · Edited by Cyrus_Blackfeather
Hey guys,
So, I want to make a pro-Principi character that can stand on his own as a good front-line fighter, engaging multiple enemies and punishing them severely while boasting enough recovery abilities to stay in the fight for long periods of time/with minimal healing. I decided to try my hand at making a Brute.
I'd like to share what I have so far (Rough notes, I'm not doing a whole 'thing' on this until I can get some decisions either way) and get some suggestions on where I should go stats and abilities-wise as well as equipment-wise.
Race: Human (Oceanfolk) - Bloodied bonus, and they're a very nautical people. I feel like Ocean/Savannah-folk have the better looking customization of all of the Humans.
Class: Fighter/Barbarian (X/Berserker). Here's the first question.
Devoted or Unbroken? Devoted gives bonus crit damage and +2 Penetration with ONE weapon, that becomes your specialty. You can't use anything else without taking an Accuracy penalty (You COULD use other weapons, but they'll always be suboptimal). Unbroken gives +1 AR when using a shield, and a penetration bonus with disengagement attacks as well as one extra engagement, at the cost of -10% stride and -25 Reflex. Of the two, I feel like Devoted may be better - I could go either Sabre or Battleaxe Devoted for the pirate feel.
If I did opt for Devoted, it would be either Battleaxe (For Oathbreaker's End), Pollaxes (For Wahai Poroga/Lord Darryn's Voulge), or Sabres.
Here's the aesthetic I'm trying to go for with this character, if that helps.
