I have the same problem on my Macbook - a black screen and unresponsive game after entering the pillar.
I don't think the patch is ready yet, but it's in development and accessible if you bought the game through Steam or GoG (see instructions here: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/98360-beta-branch-access-steam-gog-galaxy/).
It seems to work for some Mac users, but not me yet
Does anyone know when it might be out?

If you purchased the game through the apple store, then you likely don't have the patch yet. We are currently waiting on Apple approval before the patch can bepushed live. We will be pushing it live just as soon as possible.

Many thanks for this. I bought the game through GoG but the Beta patch doesn't seem to be working for me yet - I'll keep an eye out for the final version of the patch.
