Non-combat combat?
Haran replied to Haran's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
What is "Starcraft2 unique mission types"? I know the game, but haven't played it so I don't know what you're talking about. -
It'd be interesting to see the combat system used for other types of encounters, like sneaking around on a dead-line, or outrunning a rolling boulder Indiana Jones style, or evacuating a town before the horde burns it down. Torment: Tides of Numenera had the right idea with their non-combat crisis challenges, but it was poorly implemented (as was their whole combat system).

Scratch that. We had that back in Dragon Age and I did not enjoy it. PoE was really good in avoiding all that crap, for the most part. The characters aren't models to be gawked at and the game is not a dating sim. Just no. Also that about "mostly male base"? That's a self-fulfilling prophecy if I ever saw one.

I've been constantly using rings of Suppress Affliction all throughout the game. It's as effective at 1st level as it is at 16th. I've also been using scrolls of Prayer Against X which are easy to craft but are unreliable due to bugs that sometimes prevent scrolls from taking effect. Sometimes you'll just have to suffer the consequences of afflictions and keep on fighting to the best of your ability.

Devil of Caroc bad art design
Haran replied to Haran's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This. And it's boring. I love adventuring in Pillars but it's the equivalent of the world of Winnie the Pooh in it's lack of anything sexual. Have you not heard any of Hiravias' dialogue? Yep, and not only Hiravias. And that's perfectly fine. -
If you are a high-enough level, when you go to the White March the first time or Twin Elms, it will give you an option to level scale. This gives enemies tougher stats, which kinda works. I think the real question is, what difficulty were you on where you did the Bog Dragons at level 12? You might just want to punch the difficulty up a notch or 3. This did happen to me when I went to elmshore for the first time, which was after I finished the white march 1 and 2. But since I'm level 15 now it is still hardly a challenge. I was playing on hard difficulty. Would have gone POTD but can't.

Potions and scrolls
Haran replied to Haran's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It seems to happen completely at random. One fight scrolls work normally, and then another fight they don't. Next time this happens I'll try to reload the last save and try to recreate it. -
Potions and scrolls
Haran posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Potions and scrolls could have been very useful, if they didn't fail to activate half the time. All too often my character would cast a scroll, but nothing would happen. I get the autopause for finishing the action, but the spell didn't take effect and the scroll was not used up. This is very annoying, especially when winning a fight depends on protections against fear, paralyze, etc. And sometimes my character would drink a potion during combat, get attacked mid action, and it'll be as if they didn't drink it. I know this could cause an interrupt, but that's supposed to delay the action, not cancel it. Although this happens less often than the problem with the scrolls. -
I just finished the bog dragons battle, it was a close one but I eventually won on my second try. My party was level 12 and 13. I read somewhere that this is supposed to be the toughest fight in the game. I still have a few more levels to go, but if there's nothing tougher out there, what's the point in more levels and items? I haven't finished the White March 2 or the main quest-line yet.

Some abilities are only available after you have a previous ability. For example, the fighter can choose "extra knockdown" only if they have "knockdown", the monk can choose "lightning strikes" only if they have "swift strikes", etc. The game does not show you what future abilities you can choose, and the manual doesn't have a list or tree that shows you all the abilities. Can anyone here point me to such a list, with all the abilities and their prerequisites?

True. That's probably the reason her design looks out of place. -

I'm sure they could have made her look female and unique without the overemphasis on her boobs -
Just airing my annoyance with the boobed construct. Whoever designed it did a bad job in my opinion. It's not just that I'm annoyed by the over sexualization of one of my characters, it's also that it ruins the suspension of disbelief for me since it makes no sense in the context of the game. Every other animat in the game, who are of indeterminable sex, are simply depicted wearing armor. To add insult to injury, she can't even wear any armor that'll make her look less sexualized.

AoE affects wrong chars when confused
Haran replied to Haran's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sure thing, but why have them register as a different side? In BG, confused chars would behave randomly, sometimes attacking their allies, but they still counted as being on the same side as before. -
When I cast confusion on enemies or when my characters are confused they will often change sides, making it impossible to cast boosts or heals without affecting enemies or casting foe-only AoE without hurting my own characters. Is there a way to fix that? So that enemies still register as enemies and friendlies stay friendlies for the purposes of determining who is affected by spells?
