  1. Maybe they feel betrayed? A number of gamers might have believed Obsidian to be safe from the imagined hordes of SJWs destroying gaming. But then they had the audacity to provide us with a diverse range of characters not falling into their ideas of masculinity and femininity.

But it's also true that Deadfire's "politics" probably wouldn't have provoked any kind of reaction five years ago. But by now some gamers have retreated into the 19th century in terms of expected social norms.

  2. I think Rogue abilities should all be Full attacks as a dual wielding Rogue is iconic. Make this for backstab as well.

Dual-wielding rogues are iconic, but one of Pillars' strengths is that it doesn't cleave to what's "iconic" or "traditional". A rogue shouldn't feel like they're losing out by picking a two-handed weapon or a single one-hander.

Anyway, I don't have much to contribute otherwise, except to say I feel like they should have rewritten the spell lists much more than they did. The motley assortment of situational spells might have fit the first game, where wizards, clerics and druids had access to all of them, but the tighter balance of Deadifre makes a lot of them fall by the wayside. The same applies to chants and invocations.

It'll be interesting to see them fine-tune the balance over the years. Pillars had many changes that came with patches, so Deadfire will too.

  3.

Didn't expect the balancing fixes that soon tbh, much appreciated. But I find it more than a little troubling that companion relationships/behaviour haven't been mentioned thus far - unless I'm missing something.

Mentioned at length in last weeks Dev Q&A: the “bugged” portion of the problem was fixed in 1.02 (but isn’t retroactive) and the “balance” portion will be fixed in some future patch.

What do you mean by "bugged" and "balance" portions? I didn't notice anything, but if it doesn't apply to existing saves that'd make sense.

  4. So I quite possibly made a mistake by multiclassing Pallegina to Chanter. But I can't exactly revert that, so I have to make do. But she doesn't seem to be doing as much as other party members. So, has anyone tried to run her this way, and how have you made it work?

I gave her Blunt the Edge, Blessed was Wengirdh, One Dozen Stood and Sure Handed Illa, then Hel Hyraf Crashed and its upgrade as well as Killers Froze Stiff, but it's not spectacular. On the Paladin side I gave her the shared flames upgrade to flames of devotion, the aura and some passives. Maybe I should make sure she sticks close to other characters.

  5. Now that the patch to un**** Eder's backstory is finally here, I can actually play. I just need to decide on my character's build. I'll be going for a fighter/rogue with a single sword... but the question is subclasses.

The Devoted's bonus to a single weapon is tempting. Probably enough to give up axes and pistols I'd otherwise sometimes use. But what about Streetfighter? I'm kind of tempted because of the critical damage bonus, which should play well with high accuracy. But to do that, I need to be bloodied and flanked. And I just don't know how often that'll happen. And without being bloodied or flanked I'll just strike more slowly.
