  1. I think real-time with pause, with all the actions possible in a turn-based system available, is the best option. Although it can be fun, I've always found pure TB to be too artificial. The whole I shoot at enemy, then enemy shoots at me thing seems like I'm playing a glorified chess game, rather than something that's supposed to be simulating combat. Also, at times the TB aspect gets in the way when you're faced with an encounter that could easily completed quickly in RT, but in TB you're force to endure the actions of every little thing on the screen. There are some solutions to these problems of course, but I like the elegance of RT with pause, allowing me to dictate the pace of combat, rather than having it dictated to me by the game.
  2. I think the very things that made past games so enjoyable would have to be compromised to add a multiplayer component. Player choices, NPC, and plot development would all suffer if there were multiple PCs.

    Hello, everyone.
  4. What I would like to see an engaging and enjoyable RPG. Setting, rule set, engine, etc., are all periphery. I think the former can be accomplished with any reasonable limitations by the latter. For their first game though, what I most want is a commercial success. Something that will give them the flexibility and financial safety net to take more creative risks in the future, hopefully letting them develop many games over the coming years.
  5. If it turns out they are making Kotor 2, I think it's a very good choice. It gives a new studio, who most people in the market for RPGs have never heard of, a springboard to name recognition. This would give them more leeway for future projects and would make their initial offering less or a sink or swim proposition, if it can expand on the success of the original. If they are making a game in an original setting, I'd be much more worried. Even if it is a good game, it probably wouldn't sell as well as an established setting, especially something with the widespread appeal as Star Wars. Also, I'm not sure exactly what people expect from the combat. I didn't think the combat in the first game was so bad; in fact the final push through the Star Forge was the first time I've actually found myself enjoying wading through hordes of enemies.
  6. Foremost among the additions and changes I'd like to see are more plot branches and more decisions that matter. In Kotor there were lots of little side quests and you could choose the order you wanted to do things in, but you always ended up in the same place, where the ending of the game was decided upon by one conversation. It just seemed like too much of a copout, ignoring the consequences of actions up to that point. Another quibble of mine is that there were a lot of plot hooks where something was either taken out or never implemented, such as a peaceful solution on the last planet, changing the Leviathan's course, upgrading the swoop racer, and others I'm sure to have forgotten. Continuing with the lack of consequence theme, I was very disappointed with both of the endings. They left me feeling empty, with many things unresolved. Rather than some flashy CGI movie, I'd much prefer a simple Fallout style slideshow or even just text as Hordes of the Underdark.
