A lot of people use paypal as their only means for purchasing goods online, only a small subset of individuals could estimate how many people were lost during the campaign because Paypal wasn't an option. But on the topic of the thread we don't even know what number we're at right now and when the slacker period will end, so coming up with a guess how likely it is, is just that a guess. Personally I do think we're going to hit all of the goals, and I even think we've already hit 4.5 million.

This tweet: https://twitter.com/AarynFlynn/status/835722814376259584 Long story short it's him saying that ME:A will have nudity in the form of a long running joke (that Mass Effect is all about space sex). What some websites did is then take the quote out of context to try and either mislead people for an agenda and/or clickbait people. -

You mean when the GM made a joke and some crazy places on the internet decided to take it out of context? Yes, Mass Effect Andromeda will have nudity, as many AAA games have now, it's because games as a media can now contain nudity without causing a panic. Nudity doesn't mean that the romance is valueless, instead we don't run into extremely awkward scenes of people showering in their underwear. -

Mass Effect 1 only kind of ninjamances you. Sure, the default state if you talk to them every mission is romance, but there are multiple opportunities for you to express your lack of interest. The only problems with it in Mass Effect 1 (incidentally this is solved in the later games) is that it never explicitly tells you when you should say you aren't interested and it assumes that you are interested if you never say anything. Based off what we know from the reputation system it will be a lot more visible than in Mass Effect. -
Ydwin, if she actually ends up becoming a companion, Maia Rua if not. I'm not really interested in the sidekicks, I mean I'll do their quest and have them join the party but, they'll be full time stronghold guards. Them not being part of the relationship system as opposed to other companions makes them on par with Henchmen for me, even if I would end up liking them if they were full companions. I really like the idea of an animancer companion and a companion from The White That Wends, and she just so happens to be both. Maia Rua has the benefit of being the only new companion we've heard of before and being extremely tied in with the narrative of Deadfire which immediately pushes her to just behind Ydwin in terms of companion levels. So based off first impressions it's the following: 1 Ydwin (companion) 2 Maia Rua 3 Tekehu 4 Xoti 5 Ydwin (sidekick) 6 Sentient Weapon 7 Bonteru 8 Serafen 9 Radora 10 Rekke

See there are several significant leaps in logic here that aren't really supported. First of all the idea that since the majority of people aren't gay then they must be straight you're ignoring bisexual people entirely. Just because the various different species continue to exist doesn't mean that most people are straight, they could just as easily be bisexual. Or to take it further on Eora interspecies couplings do not result in offspring, so even though the majority of Humans are attracted to Elves doesn't mean either species is going extinct. Producing children is something that is very important in both the nobility and the serfs, so it's not unheard of people popping out children were for financial needs. Also, the party is by no means representative of the total population of Eora. -
I have to agree, sidekicks don't really excite me. But it's hard to say if any of them will get upgraded (like I find it hard to believe that the 8th Companion isn't going to replace a sidekick) or if they'll stay as middle ground hirelings. They aren't a bad thing per se, I'll certainly be prioritizing them over hirelings to round out team comps and/or replace irritating companions but they are one of those things that's kind of disappointing. It's a nearly 300% funding stretch goal it feels like it should be something that's more out there. But, that's just a general criticism with all the stretch goals, all the stuff we've seen so far feels like stuff they always knew they'd be doing rather than something they really want to do but don't have the resources to do.

Which BioWare titles have non-heterosexual characters in the majority? (Spoilers: it's none of them.) In Dragon Age II they were all bisexual. Also, Inquisition had two gays and two bisexual. The straight characters were four, just like the non-straight (three of those were only available for females PCs, though). That's not a correct representation of sexual orientations, since more than 95% of the world population is straight. I'll also add that having a setting based on medieval Europe where people think it's ok to kill others because of their faith or social class but somehow everyone is more open-minded than contemporary real world people about being sexual orientation/identity is also ****ty fanfiction-tier writing. See here's your mistake you seem to think that Dragon Age is based off medieval Europe when it's really not. Neither is Pillars of Eternity. Medieval Europe didn't have magic, gender equality, other races, monsters and literal gods. Both game series have no interest whatsoever in simulation of the real world largely because they take place in their own fictional one. Even if we take that extremely dubious 95% number at face value, you've offered no compelling reason why it should be on Eora. -

The impact of gift giving in DA:O is one of the things I think is most exaggerated when people talk about that game, especially in regards to romance. They made the VERY unfortunate decision of releasing a DLC that included spammable gifts that produce insane approval, which lead to the reputation of people giving cakes for sex. The few significant gifts are almost all extremely personal and/or thoughtful, and are less about bribery with material goods. But overall I think the mistake was that gifts were far too numerous, which despite the system being designed in a way to severely hamper the effects of burying companions in gifts, it doesn't ever stop making them have an effect. So despite the fact that spamming gifts is punished and utterly unnecessary there isn't anything from stopping you from giving Morrigan enough dog bones until she dogs your bone. It's a broken and abusable system and there is official DLC that completely defeats the purpose of it, but I don't think that means the system is bad in theory. In practice it needs a lot of work, and while gifts do come back in Dragon Age 2, generic ones do not, so instead it's just those thoughtful, personal gifts. Of course Dragon Age 2's romances have their own bag of issues, but that's another story. -
I strongly believe whatever race they are they'll be a Cipher. Ciphers are not only the most popular class, they're also the most unique to Pillars. Not to mention the fact that Grieving Mother had very little interaction with other characters in the plot (which was absolutely interesting, but it sort came at the cost of losing a lot of the potential from a Cipher). As for race I'm far less certain, hell I'm not even certain they'll be Kith. But I do think among the Kith races either being Elf or Godlike is most likely with a special note for the 6th character being Falanroed, as she has a huge potential for being an interesting character. Of course that means there would be no Dwarf companion but I personally believe that is most likely of any race being left out.

Romance is a large part of relationships, and since RPGs often focus on these relationships including romance is natural. I think that not including it at all is just as bad as fetishizing it, both fail to accurately represent the reality of interperson interactions. Even though I do like Bioware RPGs they've too often fell into the trap of creating characters that feel incomplete without romantic interaction and I don't want Obsidian to make the same mistakes. Pillars 1 isn't that bad with it, because while the PC had very little option for romantic conversation certain companions picked it up for example Hiravias to Pallegina and Kana Rua to Maneha. On the otherhand New Vegas had characters that were clearly written with romance in mind but it was later cut, which lead to several of them having incomplete character arcs. -
I've long been an advocate of smaller party sizes for the exact reason why you want more, redundancy. I believe strongly in the importance of preparation and planning and if you can make a party ready for anything, well that's thrown out the window. It's even worse when you run into the situation where not only you can make a party prepared for everything, you have built in redundancy so even if that perfect party plays incorrectly and/or loses to raw stats inequity they can still win. But, I will concede it's a stylistic choice and one that's not really how Pillars does things, but the question is which I prefer not which I think is better for the game. Regardless until we know whether or not the 85% multiclassing is good enough to be common place I can't really say if 5 or 6 is better, if it's strong then it's very likely 6 slots would completely power creep the game to ridiculous levels.
