There's got to be a joke in there about Rymrgand cooling Magran's fiery loins...
No doubt.... *snerk*

I'm actually surprised there aren't more people who, like me, have the most fun when their party as at the max (i.e. max level, endgame equipment, etc.)
When I'm the strongest only for the final battle, it kinda bugs me: I've spent the whole game trying to achieve this level of power and now there's only one fight left to enjoy it? Unfair.
That's why I enjoyed Cragholdt so much. I like to play when everything's maxed out, but I don't want to steamroll level-1 enemies who die in one swing.
Actually, after I've run a few "normal" parties through a game like this, what I really like to do is just set one up on god mode and steamroll everything that gave me trouble earlier - not to mention clearing every map and killing everything IN every map.
But that's usually much later.

I was having the exact same problem. I bought the GOG version today (v 2.5.0.11) and couldn't get it to run at all. It simply crashed with a runtime error before loading up. After uninstalling, reinstalling, checking drivers, etc. I simply tried to run it out of the GOG Galaxy launcher and it loaded right up. It took a while to import it into GOG Galaxy, so maybe it was applying some sort of patch, but problem solved.
Death to Steam! Long live GOG!
Well, glad you got it going.... but I haven't had ONE issue with steam.... so I'll just keep on keepin' on with steam instead of gog (for this game anyway....)

So Cipher should have 18 in INT, DEX and PER and 10 in all of the stats and 3 in Res?
After starting a new game today, with high Resolve.... I can say with perfect truth that if you DON'T have high Resolve, you're probably going to miss half the better convo ops in the game. Personally, I think that's kind of sucky....

If you like text instead of long videos.
The game is complex enough that if you come back to it after a long hiatus, it's like summer during school, people forget most of the mechanics.
Oh NICE! Thanks, Ymar!

I've been away a long time, too. Did they ever change anything regarding that huge power bump when pure casters start casting low-level spells as per-encounter instead of daily?
A couple of posters recently alluded to a recent thread that allegedly mentioned upcoming changes to that mechanic, but when I asked for a link, nobody responded. In any case, no such change has been made to the live game.
I believe this would be the thread in question:

I found Resolve to be the single most important attribute for conversations and influencing quest outcomes. Luckily my first character was a Paladin with 18 Resolve. After that, Intellect was most important. Perception was commonly used in conversations but always seemed to unlock trivial options (you'd notice some detail but no outcomes would be changed). And don't forget the Lore and Survival skills, which unlock some options.
Yeah..... but unless you can "fix" how many points you have to begin with using IEMod, you're always going to be short somewhere.... I've found Lore a lot more important than Survival, but that may be something with my own play style.

Hey Spring and tjay - playing two days now with the latest distro. No problems to report, working perfectly for me.
Now there's a thing I'd really like to have - the ability to edit Character Names - not for the NPCs/premades I guess, just for the PC and custom characters? I know there's a Creature Name function, but it didn't want to work for characters....
[And AndreaColombo, aesthetics bitches like ME want better "cartoon figures" for the on-screen bodies.... *sigh*]

And boy do I wish I'd realized that about Res before! Good thing I don't mind multiple playthroughs.... Couldn't figure out why I didn't get certain convo choices - until I read that it's all your PC's stats, not those of others.
Back to the drawing board!

You know, it's been decades since I played BG1. But I don't remember having all this "good to excellent" loot at such low levels....
-
I don't know that Readceras has enough background "oomph" for an entire PoE2. Now, as an adjunct to Vailia, maybe.... especially with that abhorrent slavery situation....
-
Guess there's a RES check for that dialog option? I usually play low-RES characters so I would miss it.
No RES check.
Give him the armour at the latest, when he says something like "... I ask ONE LAST time..."
Then "...now do the same for Osric...." and finally "...are you really so stuck in your past that you need..." (or the like).
He answers something like "...didn't see it that way..." and gives you the armour.
Nevertheless, for the Knights you are now an associate of the Dozens.
I'm not. The knights still gave me their quest line.

Female nature godlike ranger.
Might 11 (even at nearly 70 I can still drag a 50 pound bale of hay around - pick it up, no.... drag it, yes)
Constitution 14 (I'm NEVER ill - serious)
Dexterity 5 (I'm a klutz - SERIOUS)
Perception 14 (I notice things - I live in an out of the way area, in the woods; I see all sorts of wildlife that others don't notice)
Intellect 17 (I'm very very bright - VERY serious)
Resolve 12 (You don't want to try to budge me when my mind's set on something - I could teach stubborn to a mule, and upright to a preacher)
Ranger because I still hunt - birds, deer, rabbit, elk.... I'm a great shot, though I fall down mountains a lot (see Dex score) but I never break bones (see Con score). Nature godlike because I really dig them, but wood elf would be cool too. Not human because I am - some of the time....
From The White that Wends (because it appeals to me), and an explorer because I'm VASTLY interested in everything in the world.
Probably missed some stuff. Oh well!

Congrats Torm! Nice save there!

Considering, I'd really like to see either another slot added (neck AND cloak), or some trimming done of the items - or maybe just not have so many of them show up so early in game. Of course, the rings issue is just about identical - sure, you get two of them on everyone, but even if you just upgrade the minors of prot and deflect, there are still some overlaps and some pretty good things that don't get used because the "logical" wearer has something else as good, or would lose something to suppress.... Of course, in this playthrough I haven't found the spellward amulet so far, so I don't have that dichotomy yet.

Hello everyone,
I agree with all of you and have already put in a suggestion for the dev team.
Thank you for your support.
Thanks Aarik!

Out of curiosity, what does the barbarian yell sound like pitched-up? If it's decent, that could be a good quick-fix mod.
I think, this would work greatly.
Yeah, that could work fine, actually!

You obviously have to agree to give him the real soul evaluation before you can ask for the armor. I don't know what the requirements for it are, I play in Expert Mode.
Not necessarily. It could have been a single piece of dialogue. "Give me the armor and you can have the report." Instead the option is simply [Give report] "Ok here you can have it." The game presents that decision as meekly giving in to a guy who's threatening you and it feels like betraying the quest giver. I would have fully expected to have failed the quest choosing that option.
Yeah.... took me to this playthrough to go with it - and it turns out it's the right way to do it (other than just killing him for being a jackass....) It's not real intuitive.

Beta version for 2.02 is on the Nexus page (for Win only, as I don't have the 2.02 binaries for the other platforms at this time). Note that this is a beta release and may not be entirely stable. Please report any bugs here or in the Nexus page's bug system.
Grabbing it now; I'll report if it causes any issues - but so far I have had ZERO problems!

The same about Penhelm, the guy with the armour of Osric from the Dozens.
When he waits outside of Hadret House and I tell him that his leader has to know,
he says something like "...I ask you ONE LAST TIME....".
In some games I just give him the armour, sometimes I take the fight. Normally, with an attitude like that he
deserves to be punished, even when I play the good girl, right?
Yeah. I don't ever give him the armor. He's a.... um.... well the forum won't let me say that.... but yeah. Kill the SoB, he's not worth the air he breathes.
I usually give the evidence to him and still manage to get the armour, he seems to grow as a person as a result and a lot of his issues is down to basically having to cover up the fact that his soul in a previous life just happened to be on the other side and will therefore suffer for it despite not even remembering it himself. He was a victim of a unfair system too, and has a point that it doesn't matter what he was in a previous life.
Actually, on this playthrough, I have traded him the evidence for the armor. You do have to be careful which convo choice you pick, because there's only one (as far as I can tell) which will get you that result.
I rather think though that in this game a person's past souls MIGHT be a consideration....

Sometimes the game makes it hard to decide who is "evil" and who is not. And then there are the obvious villains.
Would you agree, when I say, that cooperating with the Doemenels is an act of ultimate badness?
Well, I would. I have ZERO use for the mob in any iteration.
-
Don't lie to yourself. You are not a real Ranger :/
Pthbbtbbttt.
-
Hmmm. You should have been prompted in the ranger creation process to choose one of a number of companions (six maybe to choose from - cat, wolf, stag, bear, antelope.... hmmm, missing one or maybe I just miscounted....)
In fact.... I'm not sure you can actually get through the ranger creation process WITHOUT picking the companion.

Absolutely true. You could lure him I just have that mmo habit if taking my tank and turning the dragon so it doesn't breath my party.
Heh. Been there done that.... I now have a post-it ON MY SCREEN reminding me I don't need to do that in this game!

The Dozen's Thugs
in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Posted
It turns out I really enjoyed forcing Penhelm to look himself in the face and realize he's a jerk.... so from now on he gets his bit of forged self-aggrandizement, and Osric gets his armor back.
The only group I was ever likely to select as faction is the Knights; the Dozens are bully boys, and the Domenels are the Mob. 'nuff said.
