  1.

There are some countries which have an existential and contiguous threat (South Korea), have a huge expanse of territory to cover (Russia), or both (Finland) which necessitates national service/conscription, problems and all.

South Korea has no threat, the North can´t win and they know it. What Korea needs is a reunification, but the US will never stand for it, because they need a Boogy man, an enemy as an excuse for their military spending. (and to have a foot into the asian sea from south korea) Finland stands pretty well? With them even saying the support Russian friendship, on the other way going for nato....there is pressure from both sides.

  2. The path itself is not that hard, the endboss is, and the f*cking traps you can only dissable if you spend an unusual amount lof points to do so. (note: you ONLY need that in that dungeon, in the rest of the game the traps are easily dissabled with a few points) and that was pissing me off to no end. On the other side you can mostly avoid them but the balance here is totaly off.

  3. The first part made me angry, then i read everything. :)

I don´t actually agree with the naming part, we can easily scrap that under the rug, fffs Tolkien stole his names happily. If you think they look like crap, thats fine, infact i do agree with you that more practical names would stick more with people. As you said, i remember watchers keep, but i don´t really remember any dungeon or zone except twin elms in PoE...nope none.

Everything has influence from fantasy as we know it, but the naming hm. I don´t know, as i said i don´t remember them, but as a hobby writer (yeah that doesnt mean **** i know) i do take care to name places so people can keep it in their heads.

You do have some valid points, and like you, i also hope the build upon that game and come out with a second. (or the expansion they are working on)

I would still give the setting a bit more credit, even if the wording sucks, it´s kinda interesting (another take on a patheon but i like it). We do have some very good writing in that game.

  4. GOTY Edition is going to be a free upgrade later this summer.

Basically, it's going to be an entirely new game. Kind of.

Everything has been moved to Unity 5 and the entire leveling system has been changed. There are now 110 new perks.

Well, that game gets bigger and bigger. Not sure if thats a good thing, but with my gaming shedule i will probably play it when that update comes out. Wasteland 2 is good for all i have played, but it can be a bit overwhelming to new players. The options are just insane, now we get more, which is good, as long as they fix the rest.

  5. I sent my Sorry notes to em to let them know im Sorry for Braking the Roles and having 2 Acc's, and I ask for thar Permission if I can start posting agean.

as I did this so i don't whant to start posting and have a AW Moderator see that I have 2 Accs and Bann me off the Bat whit out knowing why I did what I did.

and as long as I Follow the Roles this time I shud be ok?

PS if you Like/Love Obsidian E go on over to Armored Warfare and buy a Lord of War Pack:) :):)

Look, i hope it works out for you, but two things:

    1. your english is horrible, and mine is not even the best, Translator? :)

    2. there is no such thing as an illegal ban. this is privat ground, they can ban you without a reason anytime. You have no right to access a forum, it is granted to you ;)

  6. Dragon Age Origins, after a long time again!

It´s great and i forgot how much i love it. Which is good...the bad part is i planed to buy DA:I...that is so NOT going to happen after that lol,  I had enough dissapointments this month.

Also, Witcher 3 is coming up and i want to make a new playthru....**** DA:I

  7. I don't much care about achievements (the nudie cards were cool tho), but I will definitely do a sleep with absolutely everyone possible playthrough, even if it isn't my "canon" playthrough.

Loved the cards, simply because i wanted to collect them and the art was really nice. My first playthru however will be with Triss in mind...well she is an open person anyway ^.^ However i hope they will at last bring a little bit (!) of a closure to the romances, considering this will be the final game. Well, we will see. (I allready hear the collective scream of thousands of Shani fans :>)

AS for achievements, they are for idiots anyway, i know i will piss some people off, but thats my opinion. If you like them, fine, but don´t argue that they add something to the game because they don´t. It just gives you a medal for what you would do anyway or for something you have to repeat. Especialy in mmo´s i loath them. I´m not sure who is more stupid, people who fall for that, or people who associate content with them.

  8. Not paying for mods either. End of story.

If that makes me an angry old man, so be it.

Me neither, and then i´m happy to be an angry old man ;) (though i have and will donate to mods if i like them)

If i mod Skyrim, i will use Nexus, i just hope it doesn´t hurt them too much. There are some creators who have taken down their content/tools because of fear or others already trying to bank in on their work.

What do mean? Taking a stand against this kind of "whatever you want to call it..slogans"

    a. According to the article, this slogan is a direct quote. To be specific it is part of a music video, made by Hamas (the guys that govern in Gaza) and was broadcast as ideological messages on its official TV station (found using quick google).

    b. If the situation was reversed i.e. if any member of Israel government would have said this about Palestinians, he would be kicked out and shunned by his own. Meanwhile this is broadcasted by Hamas on official tv...

    c. Taking a stand means, that we need less Politically correct language, and more non-western prominent members taking a stand against this.

    d. Also Speaking of demonizing. That poster doesn't say this has anything todo with Muslims, it asks a question if you agree. Meanwhile, here is a better googled examples for you.

    a. ok thats what you mean. I´m well aware of the source of this thank you. The problem of this presentation still persists, people will look at this and not think "oh bad Hamas" (most probably don´t know much about it) and will think "bad Muslims". As others have pointed out as well, one should differ between one "small" part of religion/ideology and not reflect it upon all of them. Which i would think should be reasonable, and is (i hope) one of the reasons the MTA tries to ban this things.

    b. Are you serious here? You can´t be considering the unspeakable crimes Israel has made against the people of Palestinian. There is a reason why Gaza is called the biggest prison in the world. I mean seriously Netanyahu doesn´t give a **** and also pushes for bombing Iran all the time.

    c. Yes i do agree with on that, you are right. That would be a nice change overall, but also a problem is how can they even reach the public? They would need a platform to speak and now think about it, when was the last time a Muslim leader was invited to give an interview about all this mess in the media? Thats a problem.

    d. It doesn´t clearly have to say it, it the suggestion that counts, thats how subliminal perception works. It´s something that gets used in marketing all the time. The word Allah (fat, bold and big) alone does the job to associate with Muslim.

This is also not even the worst one, this has been going for some time, see here:

    http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/04/judge-muslims-killing-jews-ads-buses-150422013416574.html

That ad is even worse. Mentioning Islam, Quran, a nice picture of Hitler and coming along with a "stop racism" slogan, WHILE being inherently racist itself. Thats why is said demonization, it´s not a one time thing.

  10. Who said anything about demonizing? Activist using provocative messages to highlight social issues all the time e.g. In the west, Christianity has been the punching bag for a while. If this will lead to prominent Islamic leaders (not in the west) taking a stand against this (not the usual lip service)

Uh i did if you can´t read. Highlighting social issues or calling out Muslims with a slogan like "Killing Jews is Worship that draws us close to Allah" is a BIG difference.

What do mean? Taking a stand against this kind of "whatever you want to call it..slogans" or against some non-existing threat from Iran or the legal threat from ISIS? (who are not directing their attacks against Jews in the first place, which again makes this solgans a farce)

  11.

But for now, are we now witnessing the death of the modder?

    We might be, hopefully though

I don´t believe it will be the death, but it will be blow to the modding community and spill a lot of bad blood, which it already did. In the long run it could also be a blow to the modding sites when more modders switch to steam to make a quick bug. And of course for the mod consumers it´s **** anyway :(

  12.

Not all religions are equally intolerant. Some are worse than others.

Indeed, and I think we actually need to break it down by individual (temporally/geographically/theologically distinct) denominations and sects within each religion.

There's the Christianity of Martin Luther King and Sophie Scholl, and there's the Christianity of Westboro Baptist Church.

There's the spiritual/esoteric/polite Tibetan variety of Buddhism (which has successfully spread to the West), and there's the traditional/hard-core/zero-tolerance variety of Buddhism of some parts of South East Asia that is no stranger to violent persecution of Christians, Muslims and believers of indigenous animistic religions.

    And so on.

Thats a fair point. No one should demonize one religion because one part of it does something horrible. ISIS doesn´t represent the whole Islamic world and their believes, WB church not all christians in the US etc.

Being an atheist, i find religion interesting from a historic and sociology point of view, i have no ill will against any.

  13.

In fact there isn´t that much difference in free speech if you compare russia and the west. The whole idea that everyone in the east is oppressed is realy nothing but a propaganda tool..

All the data on the issue, disagree with your idea of facts.

What kind of data disagrees with me? Some pools or "experts" on Fox? ABC? CBS? One very good friend of me spend half his life in russia and grew up there, i do believe him more than a news outlet. I also happen to know people living in Ukraine (before some had to flee).

All data. There are no organizations that are gathering information on the various freedoms worldwide that paint a different picture than that. (as opposed to your beliefs\facts that are based on the opinion of one friend)

i mention free speech and just like people are able to openly express their opinion against Obama, they do so against Putin in Russia too

    No they don't.

The space for independent voices and diversity of opinion in traditional media grew even narrower in 2013, as the government penalized journalists for failing to conform to its increasingly strict definition of legitimate views and expanded its control over the broadcast and print sectors. The government of President Vladimir Putin has also begun to use a combination of the law, the courts, and regulatory action to crack down on online media, which some print journalists and bloggers, as well as new radio and television broadcasters, have used to reach audiences interested in alternative and more balanced sources of information. Despite this new government pressure, social media and web broadcasters continued to play an important role in fostering a wider debate about issues of public interest in 2013.

Although the constitution provides for freedoms of speech and of the press, politicians and government officials frequently use the country’s politicized and corrupt court system to harass the few remaining independent journalists who criticize widespread abuses by the authorities. Russian law contains a broad definition of extremism that officials invoke to silence government critics, including journalists; the enforcement of this and other restrictive legal provisions has encouraged self-censorship. link

In this specific subject, this thread here, i´m just sick with the same old story. [...]this false sense of superiority is BS.

This thread is about yet another law that is likely to limit freedom of expression in Russia, if you feel that pointing out the recent history of Russia's shrinking civil liberties has anything todo with "sense of superiority" look inward to check why is that. Add to that your initial silly generalization, and idea of fact, i'd suggest major butthurt or disenchantment.

Where is your data then? What do you think that the RF is the Soviet Union and Putin is a dictator? The picture drawn by western media has not much to do with reality and i think i have provied enough sources for this in the Ukraine thread and not "just one friend".

Oh and please Freedomhouse as a source? They paint themselves as an independent "watchdog" but when you look at who pays them money, (supporters) you get the picture. America in the top countries with press freedom is a joke. 90% of the media in US is owned by 5 big conglomerates and all of them sit in the COuncil of Foreign relations, it takes second to find that information because it´s not even a secret.

Yes i agree that it is a stupid law, i think i even said that, the background however has some interesting points with real damage done. Stupid laws get made all the time, including everywhere in the world, welcome to reality. As for shrinking civil rights, thats something that is worrisome in a lot of places, including the EU and especially the US.

"Add to that your initial silly generalization, and idea of fact, i'd suggest major butthurt or disenchantment." I suggest a pretty bad case of arrogance here. ;)

But whatever, as i said before this seems to go nowhere, i disagree with you. End of story.

  14. Good craftmanship is manly.

And is something no one ever should bring in connection with Apple :p

Also "meh", smart watches are being made in china now for years.

  15.

The only thing that i'm hating is how apparently you can manipulate mass media by catering to the ones that own it. I mean, why else go with Jews when the majority of people living in the US are white?

It´s pretty pathetic and should be unacceptable. The sad thing is, enough people will look at this and go with the whole "poor jews" bull****, while overlooking that this is hatred stirred against muslims. It´s pure demonization, Nethanyahu will be proud.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not angry because of who they choose to demonize and who to victimize but rather I'm angry that in an country that is predominantly one race it is that same race that creates the lowest amount of outrage when offended or threatened. I'm just a bit fed up with public opinion and how little the news media actually represents it, where it not for the fact that the US is a place where socializing isn't a necessity and that politics very rarely enter discussion people would have realized by now how little the opinions of their immediate friends and family match what the medias says people think. Or maybe i'm wrong in thinking that it is manufactured.

I get your point and i think you are right with this being manufactured. It would anger me no matter at what kind of people this would be aimed at. It just happens to anger me even more because it is clearly not a coincidence with the ongoing negotiations with Iran and Israels stance against that country.

Also there is also the double standart that bothers me, if this would be the other way around, people would be outraged and hardly anyone would speak for it because of the "anti-semitic" card being played. It kinda surprises me that there is not more of an outrage in a country that seems so easily offended by everything and anything.

Anyway, on other news New York´s MTA is trying to stop it, which i give them credit for:

  17. The good thing so far has been the negative reaction from the modding community, clearly not siding with Valve/Bethesda. Several big modders have come out and made clear their creations will remain free. (see Reddit and Nexus)

Personally i´m firmly against it. Having worked on mods in the past i never would have even thought about making money of it, nor do i know one who has tried it. I also don´t think that this will enable people to make a living, though the one or other exception may evolve out of this. I helped out with scripting/coding on some projects because i loved the game and nothing more.

People trying to break into professional game development thru modding are the exception and not the standart.

Not that i think, that modders don´t deserve something for their hard work, i have donated to a few in the past and would do so again if i find something worthwhile. I´m just firmly against a paywall and the attempt from Valve and Bethesda to cash in on the work from others.

Sure, Valve hosts the stuff and have to pay for bandwith, however that doesn´t justify such a big share in my opinion. Also, i´m strictly against the sentiment that Bethesda (or anyone really) should be given money because the provide the framework.

If they don´t want their framework to be used they could have made the game not moddable. But they know that THEY will profit from it, they allready do. Modds sale games, to what extend is open to speculation, but as an example, i just recently bought the BG series on GoG because my original CD´s aren´t working probably anymore. Why? Because there is a mod coming out i want to play and the modding-community is still active even after so many years.

Mods keep games alive and on the mind of players, this is essential free advertisement for an insane long time. Not to mention they often improve the game beyond the original vision and/or FIX the mess that normally would be the responsibility of the devs.

An additional thought, where is the line drawn in terms of what the framework provides and what comes from the content creator? Should people also play Bethesda money when they make a comic strip about Skyrim? The story is a framework too. So should fanfiction based on the lore also be subject to monetization with "x company" taking the lion share? This is kinda worrisome.

They already profit from it immensely, making this cash grab (75%) especially unacceptable.

I´m curious how that will work out. I can only add that i will never ever give Valve/Bethesda or any company for that matter, even 1cent for content that someone else made. Never.

  18.

I believe everyone on this thread is a paid shill. We have finally achieved peak propaganda.

Funny you would mention propaganda. I literally just watched the best piece of propaganda I've ever seen.

Soviet propaganda is pretty dang entertaining.

I saw, "The Pioneers Violin" which was pretty good.

Oh, and I saw some funny The Aristocats rip-off if it was 20x better cuz that pitbull was epic.

The Pioneers Violien is a film made in 1971.

Not that it matters considering even in the 90+s the russian were the nr.1 enemy in movies. And will be again ;)

  19.

Thats not an objective review, it´s an opinion

Which makes it no different than any other review, ever. In order to be objective, a review must not contain anything but a straight forward description of the game's features. Which would make it a completely sterile, worthless read. It'd look something like this:

Pillars of Eternity is the latest title assigned to the Role Playing Genre by Obsidian Entertainment. It features a top down, Isometric viewpoint with hand drawn 2d environments and 3d character models. The Player controls a party of up to 6 characters, can choose from 7 races and 11 classes. It has leveling, and a main plot as well as several sub-quests of various degrees of complexity. Gameplay options include Exploration of specifically developed areas in the "Eora" game world, and boasts an unspecified number of hours of gameplay. It is a PC exclusive funded by a kickstarter campaign that occurred in the fall of 2012. It can be purchased through Steam, GoG, and assorted participating affiliates of Paradox Interactive.

    The end.

I disagree, you can critizie a game on it´s mechanics and story without comparing it all the time to something else. What i got out of the "review" was an opinion, and thats fine. In my eyes reviews are always opinions. There is no such thing like a complete subjective or objective opinion...it doesn´t exist. It´s all mixed. I realise that even though i think of myself to be very neutral in my opinions (depending on the subject of course).

I happen to disagree with their opinion :) I also think that a lot of this points are bull****. RPGCodex...oh well,,.to be honest i never visited them before in my life..considering i spend my whole life with RPG´s. I haven´t missed a thing not realizing they even exist.

Thats not an objective review, it´s an opinion and should be treated as one. Meaning it´s as good as yours.

Not that i care what RPGCodex says, but they have some good points. PoE has its problems. NO question there, still i enjoyed it. I got almost 50h of playtime out of it and was never bored. However PoE is NOT the BG2 of our time...well of course not because BG2 needed BG1 to get where it was, that is something people tend to forget.

I will judge Obsidian on a PoE 2 and compare it with BG2 anytime. But anyone who thought backing the game to become the next BG2 is an idiot. PoE is at best laying the groundwork for a new franchise where a PoE 2 can happen, just LIKE BG1 was for its sequel. And keep in mind that BG was based on an existing IP and they didn´t have to made up all by themself.

Keeping all that in mind, i think Obsidian did a very good job, not perfect, but thats fine as long as they support it and fix problems. I´m looking forward to the expansion and next patchs and will replay it at last once, more like twice with expansion...so at last i got a good 100h+ out of a CRPG...how is that bad?

Also, PoE, for it´s shortcomings, made me play BG2 again...and bring me back in big time...so thats also a bonus ;)

I DID expect a tad more, but not much, overall they did a good job for a first game in a possible new franchise that came out of nowhere.

In D&D terms, this was First Edition; in video game terms, this was BG 1, not BG 2. It's got some flaws but for what it is and within its limitations it is excellent.

    Agree :)

I honestly couldn't read that review because it was crazy long but this is what 99% of the negative reviews I see of this game forget; people compare it against their idealized memories of the best parts of 4 or 5 different games that were, at the time, big-budget AAA titles, and forget that this is a first game in a series, it had a lot of groundwork to lay and a lot of systems to develop, and it had to do so on a tight budget.

In D&D terms, this was First Edition; in video game terms, this was BG 1, not BG 2. It's got some flaws but for what it is and within its limitations it is excellent.

I don't think that's an acceptable defense. The game was sold as having the best qualities of all of those name-dropped games. They climbed up on that cross, it was theirs to carry. The templates were all but literally there, they merely needed to stitch them together and iron out some kinks. PoE resembles none of them beyond the art and music. The Sawyer departures are glaring and contrary to many of the most poignant strengths that the IE games possessed.

I´m not sure, they did went a bit high with saying THIS is your next crpg, but they never compared themself to BG2 did they? I really like this game, but even i would say thats a far stretch. Is it a good successor? I don´t know. I don´t think so. Not until they make a 2nd game and the expansion, then i will have an opinion. For a game out of nowhere, it was good. Pretty good. It´s an interesting world i would like to see more of.

But i also had no illusion that PoE would be the next BG2, a game based on existing lore, existing rules and story, thats is just plain stupid.
