Con Air, bitches. Put... the bunny... back... in the... box. Now, really, the bastard was good|great in Wild At Heart, Adaption, Leaving Las Vegas and Raising Arizona.

Honestly? No. But the guy wanted some modern metal and you don't really get any heavier than Sleep or Sunn O)). Maybe Neurosis, or some random band I've yet to hear. Really, though, those are basically the first bands that come to mind when I think "metal". And in hindsight, I'm missing a few greats like, Neurosis, Clutch and that one decent EoS album.

The only Metal you need, not that you actually need any metal, in fact I'm almost certain we'd all be better off without it, a little saner to say the least, maybe a little fitter and cleaner too. Oh yeah, I should look for Hollywood one of these days, Barfly was good, the direction felt natural, especially compared to Factotum which stroke me as way too clean, the mood was there and Rourke played it well. Neither Rourke nor Dillon are ugly enough for the part though, but hey, a little make-up here, a little make-up there, some lard, both were okay. The Hudsucker Proxy I watched it at 5 AM, 15 hours since I last woke up, in a comfy bed. The pacing's great, the direction, the score, all very well done. Entertaining, had a smile on my face all the way through, though I rarely laughed. I do wish they'd have done something about that ending. Now, I know one shouldn't expect realism from the Coens, but, well, the way they treated the dope was sickening, I guess after the initial euphoria clears, you're left a little disappointed, or, better yet, I am. At least Jennifer Jason Leigh was incredibly, err, doable, yeah. Raising Arizona I'd like to think the message here is rednecks shouldn't have children, but it ain't and I'm just making stuff up, or interpreting it, whatever. Anyway, again, disappointing, just re-read my other quick review, God, I hope it was all a dream. (at the end there at least) Anyone else think Holly Hunter is notably hot? Now, I've seen just about all the Coens movies (the only one I'm missing is Intolerable Cruelty) and I'd rate 'em this way: O Brother, Where Art Thou? Miller's Crossing The Big Lebowski Barton Fink The Man Who Wasn't There Blood Simple The Ladykillers The Hudsucker Proxy Fargo Raising Arizona Man, I sure love them list.

Ilium, Ilion, alternative names for Troy, yes.

I like it, and you're right, As the Eternal Cowboy is better than Reinventing Axl Rose. That said, they all pale in comparison to their EPs. Both The Acoustic EP and Crime As Forgiven By Against Me! are really really great. Basically the best punk band since Bad Religion, stuff like Nomeansno exempt.

Heh. I do prefer his poems though. As for being a jerk, well, when you drink, you drink, some turn sappy and others don't, as long as your rectum's intact your friend's a bud. Unless of course you asked him, nicely or clumsily, to deflower it with ease of spirit and mind. Now, on the other hand, if you thought Bukowski was a jerkface, you should read Women. Her ideas are good and her heart's in the right place, but Le Guin just ain't a compelling writer, sure, she's above average in the nerdish, bulky world of SF, but outside of it, she just doesn't cut it. The Left Hand does drag a bit, at least it did when I read it a few years back.

Seeing how the other thread has gone the way of the grave, or Obsidian Moderation in our case, same thing, anyway, I sure bet you're all avid readers, perfect, great, here we go. I owe Pedersen some quick thoughts on Kierkegaard, and I will post them, I promise, once I get drunk enough and prepare myself for his existentialist dribble, I don't like alcohol all that much, but hey, me and ole' Soren spending a quick night talking in tongues and thinking out loud, for what more can a bloke ask?

That is the single funniest comment I have ever read. You, dear sir, are a master of written comedy. -
They didn't actually show the big squid-guy die, did they? Today, Siu nin Wong Fei Hung ji Tit Ma Lau (Iron Monkey) The leads are fun to watch, Woo-ping Yuen's a bearable director, the story's okay, nothing too fancy, a little social commentary, a little feel-good socialism, a few rants on corruption to spice it all up. Not a bad flick to spend 90 minutes with, especially when the world at large is boiling and you've got yourself a decent air conditioning unit. Kung Fu Hustle Basically what Chow does is play with cliches, he adds, twists and mixes them, still managing to keep the story flowing and the audience entertained. The whole movie is pretty much a collection of cliches, narrative, cinematic, doesn't matter, cliches all. Add a decent sense of humour, some directorial magic and a pretty good set of actors and you get an enjoyable romp that just happens to be bloody awesome. The Business Nick Love 2005 is almost as good as Nick Love 2004. Now, I loved The Football Factory, the writing was great, the images were terrific, a barrel of laughs gone hooligan and running for its life while the world went tumbling down and down around it. The writing's a little off, Dyer's monologues are nowhere near as good, but it manages to suck you in, it manages to grab you by the balls and have you staring transfixed at that screen of yours caring for the little men inside the box. Hell, it's a blast, the acting's great, the mood's there, sounds, visuals, all good. Yeah, I like Nick Love. I like hot women, good writing and tough-guy limeys duking it out on the coasts of Spain. Most of all though, I like to laugh, to smile and to feel good about the trash I see. This was a blast.

That, for all you uninitiated peons, is like being one of the smartest, cleanest, dandiest blokes in a retard-ran coal factory. BM bands get a lot better once they stop playing BM, I mean, just look at Ulver or Ephel Duath or, hell, even Arcturus. That said, Impaled Northern Moonforest is the greatest musical ensemble in the history of man. Seth Putnam might not be god, but he sure comes close. Here are a couple vids, DJ Muggs Vs. GZA - Smothered Mate [iron Monkey (Siu nin Wong Fei Hung ji Tit Ma Lau) footage. Pretty cool.] GZA - Reckon Jack was gay for this song.

You are a wise man, Gajo.

Ong-bak I've been avoiding this flick like the claps, the hype surrounding it is incredible, well, I gave it a shot today, here are some thoughts. - Tony Jaa is completely uncharismatic, sure, he's talented, he's good looking, got himself a nice guy image, I'm certain he's doing well with the ladies or the gents, I guess, he was at times fun to watch, but, and this is a big but, he bores me. His mug bores me, his gestures bore me, even his fancy moves bore me. - The music was awful, just awful unengaging dreg. I think The RZA did the American score, should've looked for that version, as it stands though, the music kept me detached and staring at the clock. - The story was a mess, magic Buddha heads? Give me a break. The tone was way too serious for its own good. - The stunts were great, the first chase sequence, wow, just wow. - Siamese hurts my ears. Probably the first foreign language to have physically bothered me. And I've watched Finnish and Hungarian flicks, for Christ's sake. Factotum Yeah, I still love this film, Dillon makes for a good Buk. I enjoyed the second half of that flick. Perhaps I'll check Unleashed out, Li's good for the occasional laugh and he's almost always fun to watch.

That's Swordsman II (Xiao ao jiang hu zhi dong fang bu bai) I've caught parts of it on TV and will watch the whole flick one day, preferably after seeing the first 3 Once Upon A Time In China films. There's girl on girl action in the third, I think, no Jet Li though.
-
Don't mind me, what I want out of Jet Li is constant Kung-Fu, sort of like Fist Of Legend, which is basically a walking, breathing, fighting orgasm. There were a few Gun-Fu battles, a big one in a mall, but still pretty ordinary, pretty boring, up until the end where it culminated in an interesting, albeit, uninvolving battle with the big baddie, that sort of describes the whole flick, uninvolving. Cradle had DMX, an incredibly charismatic person, but yeah, wasn't good, better than this one though. The Jet Li films I've seen, in order of preference, are, by the way: Jing wu ying xiong (Fist Of Legend) Tai ji zhang san feng (Twin Warriors) Fong Sai-Yuk (The Legend) Yi tian tu long ji zhi mo jiao jiao zhu (Lord Of The Wu-Tang) Huo Yuan Jia (Fearless) Hong Xiguan zhi Shaolin wu zu (Legend of the Red Dragon) Sat sau ji wong (Hitman) Fong Shi Yu II: Wan fu mo di (The Legend II) Ying xiong (Hero) The One Hak hap (Black Mask) Kiss of the Dragon Romeo Must Die Cradle 2 the Grave Zhong Nan Hai bao biao (The Defender)

GZA & DJ Muggs - Destruction of a Guard I come from a place where they say, death comes too soon Where the hoods on the block, dance to a different tune Every night and every day, hotels of foul play Turns fatal, when this hostile land of AK's On any date, not wait to pump them rounds The reminder; it's a murderer stomping ground With one less witness, gunned down in the staircase Who had led his crew, but he was moving at a snail's pace Many suspects, many possible motives Just kept coming with unstoppable explosives The weak fold in these most extreme conditions While the rivals quickly strengthen their position The mission was to move in, with sheer brute force And lives, they get lost, on a collision course The streets are fascinating, so they gotta explore it more But not without walking through some hurricane corridors Become the most wanted, life can seem haunted Thugs and agents who work closely up on it Patriotic hustlers that kill for presidents Conceal the truth, but can't hide the evidence A man died holding some dice that he was shaking Like a bank stop, but no valuables was taken Shot at 8:45, but he died at 9 A video was the most precise witness to the crime I find GZA to be one of the most fascinating writers today, I was watching Coffee And Cigarettes earlier, and his segment, wow, just wow, the man is a colossal presence, his words, his gestures, they're virtually demanding your attention. His interviews are interesting, honest, great. There are times I wish he'd write a novel, I'd be first in line, or well, second, third, I dunno, but I'd be there.

There's a 30 something movie I fondly remember where the countess also made an appearance. Quite realistic, not sure how historically accurate, worth checking out. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0071359/ As for today, Chat Gim (Seven Swords) Boring. Mundane. Pretty. I swapped the disk for the following flick after some 30 minutes. Zhong Nan Hai bao biao (The Defender) Possibly the worst Jet Li film, the worst I've seen anyway, and after Fong Sai Yuk, well, a disappointment, not enough fighting, too much chatter, horrible translation, cliched script, ugly cinematography. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Or watch it. See if I care. Mado Oh, mon frere Sautet you've made better movies, I suppose, more interesting ones at least. The Bourgeoisie, still its aged self, is a bore. At least the girl is hot. Passe.
