  1. Yeah, dude, you're correct, and I never really, you know, claimed they mean the same thing, I was trying to explain that when two terms are, like, close, you can choose one to be "in" with the cool kids|language dandies, okay, okay, picture this, "avant-la-lettre" is the fat acne-ridden dork you used to beat up in highschool, steal his money, girls and clean underwear|dictionaries, uh, anyway, "proto-" is that hot broad you always wanted to midnight poke but never got your shot because she, uh, died, yeah, okay, car crash, big big car crash. Boom. (Or simply put: French Blows. Yikes.)
  2. Dude, at least get A Tribute To Jack Johnson, which is, like, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. I can never choose between that and Dark Magus, talking Electric Miles here, obviously. And of course, I always forget In A Silent Way. Ornette Coleman - All My Life. The Complete Science Fiction Sessions.
  3. Yeah, I sorta assumed that seeing how Vinnie Jones was nowhere to be found and Luc Besson was actually, you know, credited on imdb.
  4. Well, it wasn't as funny or as entertaining, but hey, they're genre flicks, they're gonna have a few similarities, no biggie. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a 3rd one, as long as Ritchie writes a (borderline) decent script.
  5. Gosh, mister Pidesco, are you saying metal lyrics are awful, uninspired dreg? Why I'm shocked! Shocked and appalled! Here I was, thinking about the majestic ingenuity of lyricists like that guy from Cannibal Corpse, Rotting Christ or Pig Destroyer, when you shatter my world like the 5 O'Clock Boom-Boom Stick of Doom. I think I'm gonna cry myself to sleep tonight, you happy about yourself now? You, you fatty! I kid. I kid. Also, why you buying a Miles compilation? It's all about the albums, man. You better buy yourself The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions and enjoy! You hear me, mister? Arrested Development - Raining Revolution.
  6. Penn & Teller: Bull[----]! The Bible Alien Abductions Creationism (You too, dear reader, can look up more of them craazy videos on GoogleVideo, where everyone is Craaazy! Man, my jokes suck tonight.)
  7. I've always much preferred "proto-", but I can see a man of your stature fetishizing the French Langage, must feel good, bet it does, bet it does. Now, I know "proto-" and "avant-la-lettre" aren't really, you know, interchangeable, but there's a time in life when you realise not many things are and "close" or even "near", come, well, close, fairly fairly close to your usual, state-of-the-art, state-approved definition. Manhattan Murder Mystery I've always pictured myself Pier Paolo Pasolini, but, in all reality and especially the morning "after", I'm Woody Allen, metaphorically speaking of course. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean that as an insult, obviously, I love myself and reckon, behind all the self-deprecation, Woody too loves himself, quite a lot looking at his acting history, well anyway, there's a problem with this flick and the problem is it's boring. Simple as that. The scrip|actors|directing are all decent, and man, I still think Diane Keaton's by far the sexiest|most beautiful Allen girl. So why's it boring? Well, just look at the premise. That said, I did have some fun, even though I finished it in two sittings with lots of beer and, most importantly, cake! I kid, I kid. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels I still reckon this an absolute blast. Incredibly funny, violent and entertaining. I can't really think of a better film to watch with a couple mates and a couple beers. Well, there's one or two Jet Li flicks and I've always fancied Nick Love, maybe A Clockwork Orange? Classy. Foutaises (Things I Like, Things I Don't Like) It's really funny|inventive and while Jeunet has been responsible for dreg like Amelie these past few years, he once, while working with Caro, was the man, or maybe Caro was the man and Jeunet his, uh, I'd really like to use the b-word that also means female dog but there's a certain mod who'd have my balls for that, so, uh, his little dwarf-like buddy. You can watch it at Youtube, though it's really really dark, anyway, a definite blast. I wish all arty films were 7 minutes long, they tend to devolve into the most boring of the boring and the most pretentious of the very-very-quite-quite pretentious. It does indeed take a "Master", and I ain't using the word lightly, to make an art film enjoyable. Don't even get me started on "indies". A blob of lard with a camera and pirated sound|music PC toys can easily hit it big among his equally untalented mates. These days. These days.
  8. They're goths, you, like, don't seem to understand the foulness inherit in their condition, okay, okay, picture this fat piece of, uh, dreg, yeah, all lardy and, uh, foul, okay, he's eating a burrito, sitting on a bench, right in front of you, I don't know why you're in the park, maybe you like wanking publicly, no biggie, we cool, anyway, this fat guy is eating a burrito right in front of you, sauce spilling all over his enormous mantitties, wearing a see through, uh, brazier, yeah, you see where I'm going? You get my point? They're goths. It's like being a child-molester without the pay-off. Kris Kristofferson - Chase The Feeling. It's definitely brilliant. Totally destroys the original, which wasn't all that anyway.
  9. Gah, you're, like, Portuguese, what do you know? I mean you just praised a guy for listening to Moonspell, that's like denying the Holocaust or, uh, liking Hiroshima Mon Amour for the dialogue. Totally out of this world dude! They're fathered by a planet deemed boredom intersected by a comet called bland. Middle of Vapid country. And this is going nowhere. Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't [-----] (Dre Cover).
  10. That is a lie! I demand an apology, written in virgin blood, Portuguese's good enough, if you can't find a virgin, oh and, uh, uh, cake! I want cake! Written in cake! With blood! And, uh, virginal seed! Uh, yeah, okay, never mind, that was the worst joke in the history of the universe, hell, in the history of God! Have you ever seen the Great Dictator? Yeah, that shlock seems funny when compared to my joke. Because the Great Dictator sucks. Really, what was Chaplin thinking? There's not one funny joke|gag, watching Hitler's groggy speeches on the Discovery Channel seems funnier in retrospect. That said, Mr. Verdoux is a masterpiece. Scarface - I'm Dead.
  11. Well, the American version is definitely more watchable. Rent it if you fancy seeing a tit drive a car for ten minutes straight while some other tit's capturing it on film. Add a bunch of philosobabble, loads of drivel and the most gripping direction this side of, uh, Jean-Luc Godard. If you want to get into Tarkovsky start with Offret (The Sacrifice). You've got both Sven Nykvist and Erland Josephson. Thrilling, I know. But they're both masters of their respective trade.
  12. That's Ikey from The Mars Volta on the piano|organ. Williams' one of those guys I love too much to sit down and think critically in my relative subjectivity*, of course, that doesn't mean a thing and I still like the man. Saul Williams - African Student Movement. *Obvious Oblivious Bollocks.
  13. I kid, I kid. Seriously, if you're looking for the white-boy-can't-really-rap-but-it's-okay-we're-intellectuals-and|or-serious-and|or-overly-conscious subgenre, you're better off buying some more of them Streets albums, his beats are fantastic and his lyrics are pretty damn great. Okay, Okay, I have a soft spot for the Non-Prophets, Company Flow and Swollen Members. Saul Williams - Talk to Strangers I love this track, a great spoken-word recording. Williams does have a tendency to devolve into meaningless drivel, sure, but this, this is just a great|honest series of sentences strung together, a poem, a tale, whatever you call it, it's his best.
  14. Snatch Good silly fun with plenty of violence, decent-to-good acting and Vinnie Jones, I like Vinnie Jones, he's cool. The boxing match was horrible and Tyrone a funny fatso. Enjoyable. Utomlyonnye solntsem (Burnt by the Sun) A Bore. Il Vangelo Secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to St. Matthew) A beautiful film about a shallow little twerp's descend into madness|self-importance, or a blessed thinker's rise, fall, rise, repeat ad nauseam, or a tale of revolution, guts and proto-marxism, the people's darling dying on the cross. Suppose it all depends on one's perspective, bollocks, revolutionaries are (usually) boring. Judas' hanging is so much powerful and, in death, becomes a character one can relate to. Great scenery, great cast, great Jesus (Pasolini thought of Kerouac or Ginsberg for the role, imagine Jack wearing a crown of thorns and babbling them gospel lines), beautiful, at the same time faithful, at the same time empty, vapid and limp. The Last Temptation is indeed more interesting.
  15. Well, Wikipedia says, Pretty cool. Too bad I haven't touched a video game in weeks and have no intention of buying an X-Box. Bill's a nice guy, I guess, good luck to him. Am I the only one who strongly prefers 1965-era Afghan Whigs? Man, that's one soulful album. Up all night, again Az for sleep, no comprende I don't sleep 'cuz sleep iz the cousin of death Least that's what Nas say Sleep iz a state of mind And to know iz to be on your way I bought some bad drugs Off these snotty little rave kids I met And I shuffled off to Buffalo I like the NY State of Mind reference.
  16. 16 Horsepower - Alone and Forsaken Man, they nail this one. I should listen to the original. Social D. did another (equally) good cover. Well, time to dust off the old Hank Williams CD.
  17. I'd agree with that, Crash was one of those films I couldn't get through, that's pretty rare, me pausing a movie and throwing away the DVD. Of course, we ain't talking about Cronenberg's car porn, which I just happen to, uh, enjoy.
  18. I wouldn't (generally) mention Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Crash in the same sentence. It was a comedy, part satire-part tribute, that was the point. Chandler novels as day titles, Downey's Narration, God, never mind, just forget about it. It was funny. And yeah, Kor, you're right, part of the Mamet charm, I guess. Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs) It's okay, just don't expect the second coming of the Film Messiah (Bunuel reborn? Wajda's next flick? Tony Jaa actually, you know, acting?). Marty'll do a decent re-make, though, honestly, I don't find his DiCaprio fixation|wee-wee craving all that rewarding, from a, uh, film-centred perspective, yeah.
  19. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Really funny. Black should direct more films. Entertaining, violent, the script's great and the chick, Monaghan, is pretty hot. Didn't Val Kilmer call this his second gayest film? 2005's Best. F

  21. You don't get low with tha crunk, G? Oh yeah, here's Lil Jon's high school pic, if you haven't seen it before.
  22. It's better than the first, sure, the animation's gorgeous, just hope you like pretentious philoso-drivel flicks with stylised action, naked roboto titties and mind-bending visuals. I doubt I could convince you to get Jin Roh instead, so yeah, it's an okay buy.
