Rosbjerg Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 All right - I want to clean up my computer and have decided to go for a clean install of Win7. I have 2 HDD, and old IDE of and a SATA. Both drives are split in 2 - the IDE in C: (130gb) and D: (100gb) the Sata in F: (50gb) and G:(880gb) Windows is installed on the IDE on C: - but I want to install it on the Sata on F: Problem is when I wanted to do that originally, the computer wouldn't boot on the Sata. So my question is this - how do I make it boot on the Sata and change F: to C:? and how do I, in the best way, merge the 2 partitions on the IDE? Fortune favors the bald.
Gorth Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Depending on the age of your motherboard, it may or may not support sata out of the box so to speak. Older hardware needs Windows to load the drivers first IIRC. If your motherboard supports booting from it, you'll need to change the boot priority/partition in your BIOS settings. Where and the specifics depends on your BIOS. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Fionavar Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Gorth is right - you need to check the Boot sequence in your BIOS ... does that make sense Rosbjerg? The universe is change; your life is what our thoughts make it - Marcus Aurelius (161)
Rosbjerg Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Asus P5Q pro is my motherboard. I can't figure this out - how do I check if it supports booting from SATA. Fortune favors the bald.
LadyCrimson Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Asus P5Q pro is my motherboard. I can't figure this out - how do I check if it supports booting from SATA. *digs around* Apparently that board has 8 SATA ports, but only 6 of them actually work for HDD bootup by default (the six red ones). http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardw...d-review-5.html So, first question, is the drive you want to use plugged into one of these six? “Things are as they are. Rosbjerg Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Thanks you three - I'll be trying my luck tomorrow.. If I'm offline for a week you can assume that I messed something up. Fortune favors the bald.
