so, after some trying, i managed to change my cipher abilities to work on self and allies instead of just allies

how? go into your gamedata folder, open attacks.gamedatabundle in a text editor like notepad++, find the cipher ability u want to change and then change this:

"AffectedTargetType":"AllyNotSelf"

into

"AffectedTargetType":"Friendly"

just gotta be careful not to change the wrong abilities, u can do this by checking the DebugName of the ability and making sure its the right one

picture of my cipher with reaping knives activated on self,  note that hes the only cipher in the team

You, my friend, are a god. And not the kind I go on quests to kill or want to kill because they are ass holes.

Sure this breaks Cipher, but in a way that I like. :)

Would it be possible to make Barbarian's "Carnage" passive work on ranged weapons as well as melee weapons by editing something similar?

Aloth massages his temples, shaking his head.

i dont rightly know as i havent looked into how carnage works exactly within the files, i'll look into it later to see if its something simple

i dont actually dont think its really broken to be able to use abilities on self as a cipher, it just makes me feel cooler in not relying on my allies's minds and allows solo-ing/not being screwed if ur whole team dies

i did the same thing in PoE1 and never really felt broken aside from being able to solo as cipher at full power

Yep. The only buff you really get is intangible. Your damage and utility output is the same, just with less tedium.

It isn't just about buffs. In any case, do whatever you think is fun. God knows I'm going to be doing this myself, broken or not. I can gimp myself in other ways.

I got this to work for Driving Echoes and reaping knives - but I was unable to find Ancestor's Memory in the attack.gamedatabundle

Would it be under a different gamedatabundle or a different name?

I take that back - I got this to work on only Reaping Knives.  For some reason Driving Echoes and Pain block aren't working even with the correct affectedtargettype being updated.

And yeah, I still can't find Ancestor's Memory

Just for posterity if anyone else is looking to do this - Ancestor's Memory is called Ancestor's Honor in the game files since it was dramatically changed in a patch back in the day
