Hi

Fair Warning, there's Quest-Spoilers ahead :p

So Pallegina is searching for Giacolo and after some searching I tracked him to the Runnage house. There I'm posed weird riddles which result in the pirates killing Giacolo...is there a way to avoid that? I haven't found a way to answer so that Giacolo is spared, is there? Afterwards I can attack the pirates, but they run straight for Giacolo and one-shot him, can I avoid that?^^

Yes I was able to save him with the correct replies to the questions.

Yes I was able to save him with the correct replies to the questions.

which were? :p

I believe just answering the first to everything will have them release him. I accidentally found this out when I forgot to switch out some characters so I reloaded.

That said, it is possible to fight them and have Giacolo survive. I had Edér use the charge ability on the captain (who was nearest to Giacolo) to engage, and quickly ran Xoti over to cast withdraw on him. I had her AI off through the fight so she wouldn't spend any of the spell slots I needed, and recast it as soon as he was out. That way none of the pirates could attack him (I found out the hard way one attempt with crowd control alone, any of the pirates can sometimes break off to go smack him, and the guy only has one hp)

You can save Giacolo even if you don't answer correctly. I personally used "into the fray" on the paladin before he could hit Giacolo. After that it was a regular fight (as in no one else tried to go kill Giacolo).
