I am in the village. I have already finished the main quest when I found this, so I am not sure if it happens before.

When you scroll around on the map, the door icon will become visible when a door is in the lower part of the screen and it will disappear when you scroll so the door is in the middle or upper part of the screen.

It does not matter where your party stands and if the party members are visible on screen or not.

 

expected behaviour:

You should only see the door icon when you put your mouse over a door or when you press the tab button.
