Does the Solo Achievement also preclude recruiting companions to man the stronghold for those quests? Does that mean you have no way of getting those items?

    It does indeed. Luckily you won't have to share your gear with anyone so shouldn't be lacking for good gear.

    No hirelings, no companions after Cilant Lis and therefore no stronghold quests and items.
