I am a little confused by the inconsistent info about the boxed edition.

This is the only place to get a physical edition of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. You receive (...) upon release. This does not include the digital copy of Pillars II.

A: Purchasers of the box copy will receive their digital code both in the box and via email on release day (same code, you won't get two different codes). You will not have to open the box at all, if you don't want to.

I'm sure that's not going to helpful to the OP question. =)

If you choose the physical box tier you get a code that you can use to activate your game and download it online. Your physical copy will have that same code, so you have that one copy of the game but in order to not make you murderous while waiting for the physical copy they will send you the code that is inside your box to you by email.
