Problem with monster with multiple rolls

Hi, could you explain me as the multiple rolls works in a fight? It's the THEN situation (ex. combat 15 then 18).

I got a boss mixed again in the deck after loosing the first but winning the second for a couple of times..

What's the point to roll twice if I already lost the first and taken damage. Am I missing something?

The monster might be able to do additional damage to you on the 2nd fight or have other effects.

 

If you've already discarded your entire hand and there are no other negative effects on fighting/losing, simply roll again (and don't waste any resources on the second roll).
