I bought the 200 gold/day thing when the game came out.

 

It expired sometime between last night and this morning.

 

This morning, I have 0 gold available and last night I had something in the 1600 to 1800 range.

 

Do I need to keep an active daily gold thing going in order to access my gold (including what I earn from game play) or is this just a bug?

That is a Connection to game server bug. Try first restart your game Center or play center account and then restart the pathfinder app. If that does not help, the dev can fix this From the server side.

Same thing happened to a myself and a few others this morning.  I restarted the app a few times but to no avail.  After I waited a half hour or so it was all restored to normal.

Rebooting the ipad couple of times helped today and my gold became back, or then it was just a coincidence :)
