I loved PoE and plowed though it back when it came out of beta on a hard difficulty setting.  Now that The White March is out I'd like to return to it and play the expansion.  However I found myself really bouncing off the game when I gave it a shot again.  I think this is because a lot of the skills and systems in the game have been reworked over the past year and also because there are just so many skills and spells when you're jumping in to play high level characters (and I just don't remember which ones are good).

Does anyone have suggestions on how to ease back in to the game after an extended break?  I looked at a lot of the Steam guides and didn't see anything particularly useful (but maybe I missed a good one).

Thanks for your advice!

I just came back after about a year's break. I don't remember things very well either. But, I'm finding that it's okay to just pick whatever feels good. Combat isn't that hard, and if you really mess up, you can always retrain your talents (which was added in a patch at some point).

So my advice is not to sweat it too much.

You could always jump in at the start and work your way up then after you take that party through the expansion go back to your original group - there are after all lots of different choices to make going through the game a second time.
