Haven't played a game like this in a long time, but I've been reading up on Chanter stuff for the past few days and I'm just about ready to start. I'm planning on getting into the melee with sword & board, utilizing the debuffing phrases and crowd control invocations, maybe one summon in case needed, but not relying on them. Also plan on chuckin scrolls and quaffin potions in between invocations to adapt to the situation. Here are my attributes.

Human, Ixamitl Plains, Philosopher

MIG:10 | CON:10 | DEX:6 | PER: 18 | INT: 15 | RES: 19

CON at 10: I figured with high Deflection I won't need much CON & a few points won't make much difference for a class with low base endurance & health. Too low?

INT at 15: I'm back and forth on this. I could go lower but not sure if that's a good idea. I could also go higher but I don't know if it will benefit me much. Not maxed because I plan on being pretty close to the enemies I want my chants to affect. Didn't want to go too low, though, for conversation purposes and for duration bonuses, particularly on the stun for The Thunder Rolled... I heard the durations for phrases that affect enemies (like DR, stun) ARE affected by INT, whereas the party buffs are not. Is this true? I haven't been able to test myself. If they do get bonuses, would it be worth it to go a little harder on the INT to get longer durations on stuns and debuffs?

I'm playing on Hard, so how much Deflection do I really need? Can I sacrifice a point or two in PER and/or RES to maybe put more into DEX or CON? Although I'm not sure a few points in DEX or CON is really going to make much of a difference...

Do I need to worry about Fortitude at all, or can I drop some MIG?

Thanks for any input. I haven't really been able to play much besides running around in the first area a little bit so haven't had the time to test anything.

My tank Chanter maxxed Con, Per, Res, and completely dumped Dex. Mig and Int were left at 10 I think. With a 15 Int, that's (I believe) a 15% increase in AoE. Personally, I don't find that useful. My Fighter and Chanter team up and as long as I can affect those two and/or the enemies meleeing us with base AoE, that's good enough. More health and endurance is far more useful to me.

Your experiences may vary, particularly depending on your planned party composition.

Those stats seem pretty reasonable for a summoner chanter tank to me.

However, you said you wanted to focus on the Invocations that do crowd control, in which case I would put more points into might and int than per/res. You won't be as good at tanking, but your Invocations will do better (longer stuns etc). Of course, it's all a tradeoff =D

Con of 10 is fine.

In regards to Deflection: you need as much as you can get. Again, a tradeoff. If it's too low, you may as well have none, but to get it into the area where most hits are misses/grazes you have to sacrifice a lot in other areas.

If you are intending to be a deflection tank chanter, then you really need to focus on defensive stats and summons, and use Invocations as "I've got nothing better to do right now".

You're good all around.  Get in some heavy armor and a shield. Pick up the invocations that reduce DR and stun at levels one and two respectively. The frighten one is also very good.

If you are looking to min max then you should dump dex and intel as chanters get very little out of either, though maybe keep intel at about 8 so your shouts hit two rows of enemies. If you are just looking to have a healthy build what you have is fine, i would dump dex though, chants are instant and invocations have tiny cast times anyway, as a chanter you arent gonna do much damage with sword and board chanter anyway so there is no real reason to have any points in dex at all

Cool. Thanks for the tips, everybody!

I think I'm going to go with:

Mig:10 | Con:10 | Dex:6 | Per:18 | Int:14 | Res:20

I guess I could stand to cut Int or Mig more, but I honestly don't even know what I would do with the points, given the character's role. I'm planning on including a lot of crowd control in my party and plenty more buffs (my favorite way to play) so I'm not worried about this guy having to be a tank everything! kind of character.

About to leave work now and begin my epic quest. Pretty psyched about this little dude. Gonna partner him up with a wiz, a priest and a monk and see what kind of chaos I can cause.
