I'm not really sure where to post this, GD seems like the least inappropriate place ;)

The wallpaper pack is supposed to have wallpapers for the most common resolutions.

1920x1080 is the 2nd most common resolution in most statistics, but as this is focused towards gamers, let's go with steam stats:

Primary Display Resolution: 1920x1080 34.02%
Multi-Monitor Desktop Resolution: 3840x1080 27.82%

Why are those sizes not in the wallpaper backs? I know I can resample the 5120x1440 and 2560x1440 versions, it just seems weird that I have to downsample from an uncommon resolution to a common one.

Those resolutions have the same aspect ratio, so just resize them. Also, I think you can use them as backgrounds directly, no need to do anything. Anyway, it's better if someone needs to downscale, then another to need to upscale.

We decided that rather than make a bunch of different wallpapers for different common resolutions, that we'd make high-res wallpapers for specific aspect ratios. That way we can account for the small percentage of people using very high resolutions, as well as every size underneath without any loss of quality or excess files. Just pick the wallpaper with the aspect ratio that matches yours and set it to stretch.

Here's the corresponding aspect ratios:

2560x1440 = 16:9 (1920x1080, 1280x720, etc.)

2560x1600 = 16:10 (1920x1200, 1440x900, etc.)

2560x1920 = 4:3 (1440x1080, 1024x768, etc.)

2560x2048 = 5:4 (1280x1024)

The dual-monitor wallpapers should be similar, though we weren't able to make the image sizes quite as large.

2560x1024 = 5:4

3840x1080 = 16:9

3840x1200 = 16:10

3840x1440 = 4:3

Hope that helps. :)
