[MacOSX 333] reliable hang when leaving village with grappling hook

I seem to be getting a repeatable hang when leaving Dyrford Village after buying a grappling hook and rope from Wynfrith.  If I then try to go to the crossing, the game seems to reliably hang.    So far I've had it hang about 7 or 8 times on one computer (~2009 27" iMac), and 3 or 4 times on a 2011 15" macbook pro.   Both systems are running MacOS 10.9

 

I did manage to successfully do this once with another party, but it seems to hang much more repeatably than usual for me...
