You used to be able to click on magnifying glasses in certain places to get a little bit of info such as on paintings in the inn  etc, these have all been removed, not sure why as they were a nice flavour, now we seem to have all the backer npc to check out but do nothing (im taking this is just to preview the model etc)

I didn't check this in my last playthrough, but you may want to report this in the bug forum.  If it's not a bug, then Obsidian might be doing some re-structuring as I can't imagine this feature not being in the final release.
