Game Difficulty Resets if you do not complete character creation

Featured Replies

[Description of the issue]

Game Difficulty resets to Easy when you prematurely close character creation

[DETAILED list of steps to reproduce the issue AND what to look for]

Start a new game

Alt-tab and close the .exe

Run Pillars of Eternity

Start a new game

Difficulty will be back to Easy again

[Expected behaviour]

Game Difficulty should always be what you have it set to

Any scenario that involves forcefully closing the executable is unlikely to be supported.

Can't say I consider this to really be a bug... difficulty settings should be saved in the game save itself, this isn't something that should be in a .ini file.

I reported this because when they make character creation cancellable, they will need to make sure this doesn't happen.

and another reason is it's not because it doesn't save the difficulty you set it to before you started character creation, it doesn't save the difficulty that was previously saved the last time you quit the game.

Wouldn't that be pointless? You did click "NEW GAME" after all, so just pick the one you want for a new game.

It would be of small avail to talk of magic in the air...

No, for instance.

I play on Hard, so my difficult is set to hard.

When you create a new (hard) game and then exit the character creation, it resets the default difficulty back to easy.

WHEN they make it so that you can exit character creation without crashing the exe, they will need to make it so that it doesn't reset default difficulty.

But if you exit character creation... you're back at the main menu. You need to create a new game (and thus select difficulty) before going into character creation.

Yes, but my point is that the difficulty resets to default when you do, it doesn't matter what you had it set on or what you changed it to. That's why I am reporting it.

Not the same issue, but the game doesn't remember the difficulty setting upon exiting the game.
