The mage icons dissapear once I go into the fields, left of the village, once I return to the village the mage icons are still not visible.

I got the same issue. Casting spells is not possible because I do not see any spell icons.

This is actually a known issue that is usually caused by the Wizard losing his grimoire to a save/load, or transition. If you check your Wizard's inventory, you should find that the grimoire in the bottom right equipment slot is missing. We are working hard to resolve this issue before the next backer update.
