Rolled a female human Paladin. When I got "in-game", saw a + on my character pic, hit "c", and distributed my skill points. Hit done, and saw the level up button was still lit. I leveled 5 times, before dumping out of the character screen. The "free leveling" stopped. I now have a Lv 5 Paladin, and all my party is Lv 5. Pretty sure this is unintentional.

This is intentional for the backer beta. We wanted you to have a level 5 character but still allow you to choose which abilities / talents you got during those first 5 levels.

Cool. Was thinking this might be the case, just happened to exit the character screen after Lv 5. Wanted to cover all the bases, in case this was a bug.

I'm enjoying this myself. It kind of feels like the start of BG2 with a bit of ability selection in the beginning.

 

The ability graphics and variety really remind me of BG2 as well, although the variety in pillars seems much better (and it's nice being able to mouse over opponents and see that my fire ability will be resisted but my crushing one will not be well defended against),
