October 27, 201213 yr Hi, I'm a Japanese, cheer for Project Eternity. It can do no better than official localizing, but My language (Japanese) will not be official localized. I suggest some points for easy unofficial localization. 1. Plane text files It's easily modiffied without unpacker and repacker. 2. UTF16-LE encoding Because of Japanese and any languages characters are multi-byte. If it use ASCII, it is not enough byte for those languages. Otherwise It will too easy for any languages if it use UTF16-LE. 3. Replaceable font file Like NWN2 is the best case that xml or ini files define using some TTF. If it use Scaleform UI, modders will not easily make font file. 4. Viewable Conversation Trees It's easily traverse conversations. Thanks.
October 27, 201213 yr Packing has a purpose, all games should be packing the content of their games. It's a very minor inconvenience for modders. Most game engines can run files unpacked, so you should only have to do it once.
October 27, 201213 yr Author Yes sure, package files and unpack files both readable system is more better. I hope so.
October 27, 201213 yr Unicode is a really good for localizations in general, as codepages are a pain. An alternative to UTF-16 might be UTF-8, which would probably make it slightly easier on the original writers because of ASCII backward-compatibility. That would still support CJK characters, even if it's not quite as compact for CJK-range code points.

October 31, 201213 yr I would be very surprised if the game wasn't unicode based, all modern engines and toolkits expect unicode strings. Windhaven : fantasy flight adventure : now on Steam Greenlight
