Sorry for asking such a simple, if not outright silly, question, but how does one gain a different title and what do they depend upon?

Seems like they're completely based on the amount of posts you make.

Sometimes they are given out as prizes in various competitions. I have won two or three, but since this board has a weird policy against wanking-related titles, all my title suggestions have been shot down.
