Is Reinhart's Numismatics talent in effect if he is your companion and not your playing character?

 

I have it on 100%, but I'm not sure I can tell any difference when he picks up the coins.

No. He does not have to be the one to pick it up. As long as he is in your party and you are getting loot drops from NPCs and lootable destructibles and chests - you will gain the gold drop increase :ermm:
