i wonder if the campaign will be so short 10-12 hrs.

 

LOTR War in the north seems that will be short too because the rumor in the official site forum is that a dev said in a interview that the campaign will be about 12hrs .

 

I wonder why devs are taking the short route when making RPG's in this times.

Devs have said 20-25 I think, and usually games are never, ever as long as devs say they are, so I'm expecting 15-20, then faster if you rush, miss a lot of sidequests, skip all the dialogue, etc.

That good for me. The problem is that the gamers of this generation play RPG's ala rush mode without complete all the side quest available in the game to later bash the game because they beat it in short time etc.
