Activation Issue

unskilled-

Question

I downloaded and installed AP through steam. I click on the play button and it brings up the activation console, only problem being that the whole thing is displayed in white and nothing works. I tried online activation but there's no guide on what to activate or what to upload or anything actually. Whatever I uploaded was obviously not correct since the file they give you to download says "e=LICENSE_PARAMETER_MISSING"

So, two things:

1. Any solutions or possible issues with why my activation console is displaying a nice pearly white background.

2. Proper documentation and/or proper FAQ's on what to actually do to activate through the web. What do I upload? What do I put in my file? What kind of file do I upload? Is there any proper format when uploading your request? What do I do when I'm given a proper ActivationResponse file? Where do I put it?

Also, because I don't want to wait (and also keeping my options open). Does downloading a cracked exe work with steam?

I don't really care for refunds. I'm only considering a cracked exe because I really wanna play this game now and not later. I do not think it was Obsidian's fault for having to put in DRM that sony wanted them to (thats my assumption).

In any case I want to be sure if the fact that the activation console not working (its showing up as white) is something to do with the fact that my IE's been ****ed up for a few years (been use firefox). Or maybe its something to do with my OS itself (winXP SP 2)

Well, considering I played Neverwinter Nights 2 when it first came out, there really isn't much in terms of bugs, glitches, or any numerous amounts of errors and other such oddities that'll really affect my overall outlook on the game. It really comes down to whether or not the story and characters surrounding it are solid (like NWN2). Even the gameplay itself wouldn't have to be perfect or bug-free, as long as it gets the whole point across without utterly destroying itself and imploding on itself like certain games out there.

In any case, games being released with bugs or other such things that affect gameplay are the standard now. The more complex games get, the more chances of bugs creeping up in the process. The more grandoise the vision for a game is, the more chances are of ideas or execution of ideas not going as planned either due to hardware and software limitations or bugs and other such stuff.

Guy has problems, no point using that as a platform to vent your own problems. :ermm:

Anyway, unskilled, you're right - the activation page is pathetic, there's so little info I don't know what you're meant to be uploading, either. O_o There are people here that made it work that way, though, so they should know what file you're meant to upload?

I assume you've tried manually running activator.exe in the game folder/binaries.

Yeah, I tried running the activator.exe by itself and it doesn't work. When I run the APgame.exe though it gives me the Activation screen, but as per my problem earlier its only giving me a white screen.

However, when I'm looking at the static screens through my firefox browser, I am able to grab this information regarding the "disconnected/offline activation" issue.

"To complete activation without a direct connection, you will generate what is called an "Activation Request" file. Then, you will upload this file to a target web site. If your program is blocked by a personal or network firewall, but your normal web browser works fine, then you may be able to upload the file right on the computer you are currently using. If your computer doesn't have an internet connection at all, you will have to move the "Activation Request" file to a computer that does have an internet connection.

Once you upload your "Activation Request" file to the server, the server will respond with an "Activation Response" file. You can then save this file and "install" the file via the UI.

Once the "Activation Response" file is installed, your application will be usable!"

Okay, so from reading this I have inferred

1. The Activation Request key is generated somehow, someway (is it through an option in the Activation screen? I can't tell since its all white and doesn't work).

2. I'll need to get the Activation screen working if I am to activate the "Activation Response" file

If anybody who has gotten this working knows anything, help would be appreciated! :D

Do you want to try running Alpha Protocol\Binaries\en\enterkey.html? The activator is really a website packaged up, it seems, and when I load that file in Firefox, I am able to enter in my key. If you were looking at other static screens, you should be able to find it.

Regarding the activation through the SEGA website, that's my guess as well - can someone confirm? It kind of sucks that they have 2 methods of activation, but both depend on the same program working. :/

Fixed!

Seems the problem stemmed from my Internet Explorer being fubared for some unknown reason. After installing IE8 the Activation Console worked properly. Even the website button is working properly now. The weird thing is that firefox is still my default browser, and when I was having IE problems it wouldnt work, but now it would(?).

Activation took only a few seconds and now all I have left to do is play the game! (lets cross my fingers and toes and hope I don't run into anymore game-stopping errors like this!)
