Calling amateur devs

A while back I had the idea of creating an additional 'radio station' for Fallout 3. The basic format would be a background of static, into which would fade snatches of 'ghost' transmissions, as they ricochet off moribund satellites and the ash polluted stratosphere. I envisage classic speeches, atmospheric tunes, morse code, desperate pleas for help and so forth. I think it would be far more in keeping with the true tone of the game than having some copy paste 20th century DJ yapping at you.

I see several roles:

1. Coordinator

2. Copyright advisor - I see using short snatches of copyright material to mitigate any copyright issues

3. Material researchers - a posh way of saying people who put forward clips for it

4. Material creators - I don't see why we couldn't accept longer

5. Someone with community connections to publicise it, and circulate it

The only thing I did with the GECK was playing a bit to change the Initiate's armor (no T-45d but rather a normal Combat Armor), so I don't know how much help I can be but I can point out a few things :

1 - One good way to ask for help for a Fallout 3 mod is to visit the Nexus and Bethesda's forum, since the community there it's obviously the most expert on these kind of things.

2 - You'll probably want to post the final (or even WIP if you desire) version on the Nexus and some other big modding sites. As far as I know the Nexus is the biggest and it usually highlights new mod, so as long as the description is clear and you put a couple of images here and there, you should manage to grab some attention with the finished mod.

3 - There are already plenty of radio mods on the Nexus so you should definitely download some of them and contact the authors for know-how and copyright issues (I use a mod called More Where That Came From or something like that that adds 100 50's songs to GNR, and greatly reduces Three Dogs talks, since it also adds spots taken directly from the Fallout 3's viral website, civil security's tape recording etc.).

Hope it helps.

Thanks WUE.

1. I want to keep this here. If Obsidian are releasing a Fallout mod, then so can we!

More practically I know who I can rely on here, and they know me.

2. Roger.

3. I had a look at those at the end of last year, and none had the right vibe. But I will refer to them for copyright issues.

  • 3 weeks later...

In a roundabout way. I'm working like stink so I can have time after I complete the projects on the table.

Note I'd like to see random sampling within each track, to improve variability and interest.

I'd also like to see some foreign language material. Korean war, Spanish civil war, etc

If anyone has any police broadcasts that might be cool provided they can be made to sound fuzzy.

Suggested tracks:

Barney the dinosaur (obvious for anyone who's read The Men Who Stare at Goats) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsKO_r76kfQ

1930s documentary about Cuba

Martin Luther King on Vietnam

Eisenhower's farewell address

Marge Thatcher on the Falklands

Neville Chamberlain declares war on Germany http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtrOJnpmz6s

I think some of it doesn't fit Fallout's timeline, though I don't really know what to suggest with the same 'atmosphere' right now.

I know you what you mean, sort of. But I think they'd be fine in small chunks interspersed with static.

If you think it fits, it fits.

Talking about radio stations, I had a lot of ideas in my head for a Fallout PnP campaign and since radio stations are now an element of canon I was thinking about a ghoul blues radio station.

Then again, I still have to convince two of my players that it's worth it to play in a Fallout setting, so for now it's just really an idea.

But.. you know.. if you think some blues fits... ;)

I think Blues would be ideal. Crackly and often dark. Indeed, people might finally get my reference when I say "Good morning, little schoolgirl" when sniping.

A Kiss to build a dream on has been already introduced by the GNR extender (More where that came from) mod.

Though overlapping isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially with such a sweet song.

And what a wonderful world seems like a deliciously ironic choice if a bit too predictable.

You're right!

Dear Zenimax/LucasArts/Activision/EA/Ubisoft, I have a great idea for a generic cover based shooter starring a red armored(feel the genius of this groundbreaking feature) space marine!

What about a kid who starts out being told he HAS to be a blue space marine, and his doubts about his manliness are eventually conquered to the point where he breaks from what he has been told and puts on the red armour instead?

He should have a pet!

And some moody thin girl who follows him around out of what appears to be spite, but is probably syphilitic dementia.
