Well, I'm not what I did but now every folder and file that is, by default, supposed to be hidden is clearly visible - and, no, I did not choose to make them available via "folder options." As far as I can tell the "hidden" tag has been stripped from every file and folder that had it, and re-starting has not fixed the problem. Is this an indication that I've picked up some horrible form of malware or is it an unusual glitch that I'll be able to live with? :ermm:

Nevermind, I figured out what happened - I had accidentally deleted a registry file and that caused the problem. This can be closed.
