Would it be a bad idea?

Perfectly acceptable. Indeed, any combination of initial class/prestige class is viable, and it's very much down to personal taste what people prefer.

 

Though the initial class suggests jedi, it in no way limits your choice later, only your alignment does. Just remember that you have to be 25% towards light or dark side (starting from 50/50) in order to choose to be able to choose a prestige class (upon reaching level 15 and then talking to Kreia).

 

You seem to go for a dark sided warrior type. That would be a Jedi Guardian taking the Sith Marauder prestige class, in which case you should probably focus your stats towards Str, Con and Dex in that order.

 

Personally, I find the sentinel/jedi master combination more attractive, but then it's just personal taste, as mentioned above. Ask around and people will advice different combinations. I prefer sentinel as the initial class, however, because skills are much more significant in TSL than they were in K1. But choose what you like - it all works fine, so just have fun experimenting with it. And welcome.

No prestige class available. Being gray has its own advantage, but you'll have to give up the higher mystery of the force.

Also I believe you'll need to have Visas in your party to get to prestige, so if you get to more than 20% dark/light off the ship, then talk to Kreia off the ship, I do not believe it'll work.

 

In TSL since all class have the same base attack bonus, so anyone can be a good melee fighter.

Even if you are Consular/Jedi Master or Consular/Sith Lord, you can be pretty good at melee fighting, though you focus more on the force.

 

My personal favorite is Consular/Weapon Master, strong in both force powers & lightsaber dueling.

If you're in the grey area you can't 'upgrade' your Jedi/Sith class. I don't think Kreia will even initiate the conversation in doing so.

 

Starting as a Guardian will give you Force Jump, which I find to be an incredibly useful unique ability when used by the other prestige classes. Helps covering great distances too without relying on Force Speed too!

As others have stated: None.

 

The system works on a scale from 0 to 100 points, beginning at 50. For every LS act you commit, you add one to that value, and for every DS act you subtract one. Thus, Light Side Mastery is a value of 100, and Dark Side Mastery is a value of 0.

 

In principle, at least, since I suspect the game of adding/subtractaing more if you're closer to one of the extremes and choose the "wrong" option - you seem to lose more than just one point if you're close to LS mastery and then take a DS choice. Not that I'm complaining, since it makes sense, but I'm not clear on it.

 

If I've understood it correctly, you can take LS prestige classes (Jedi Master, Jedi Watchman, or Jedi Weapon Master) if you have a DS/LS value of 75 or higher, when you hit level 15 and talk to Kreia. If the value is 25 or lower, you can take the Sith prestige classes instead (Sith Lord, Sith Assassin, or Sith Marauder).

 

The Jedi Master or Sith Lord prestige classes are similar to the Consular, while the Watchman or Assassin is similar to the Sentinel, and the Marauder or Weapon Master is similar to the Guardian. IMHO, combining the option is better than taking the "upgraded" class, though, since it gives the character more abilities. As stated previously, I find it the most powerful combination to being as Jedi Sentinel and then switch to Jedi Master or Sith Lord later (depending on alignment). Other people here will tell you different, though.

yeah the first time i finished the game i had no prstige class but i thought it was because i reached over 50/50 after lv15 and i got the darkside ending, if you go 50/50all the way through does vissas/nihilus never show up?

Nihilus should show up no matter what, but it is the very act of moving toward LS or DS (either way) that triggers the cutscene, where Nihilus orders Visas to hunt the Exile down and bring him to Nihilus. I believe that scene triggers with the LS/DS scale goes to 75 or 25, and once it does, you'll get the Visas scene the next to you exit the Ebon Hawk and then board it again. But I do believe the Visas scene/fight should trigger eventually, even if you never go to/above 75 or to/below 25.

ill have to try it and see, one thing that really bugged me about this game is did anyone ever mention nihlus by name? or was the first time you figure out what he is called is when you fight him?

IIRC, the only time in the game that Nihilus' name is actually mentioned is in the description of the Nihilus mask.

 

I don't think his name is ever mentioned at any point during the conversations of the game. Now, obviously neither Atris nor the jedi masters know anything about him, but both Sion and Kreia do and could have mentioned the name. But they don't, and it probably happens to add to his mystery, since it plays to some of the unwritten rules of horror, where the undefineable or unknownable is often called upon to stir up tension, usually by referring to either a "thingless name" or a "nameless thing". Nihilus speaks to both in a sense. He has "thingless name" because the name literally means nothing - there is no substance to this entity, and you have no idea of his goals or thoughts, if any. By not ever mentioning his name, he also becomes a "nameless thing" dramatically, since he is omnipresent in the game - everybody talks about him. Kreia tells us how he must be stopped or he will consume the galaxy, Visas does pretty much the same, and the masters tell us he will consume the jedi and threaten not just the galaxy but the force itself - Nihilus is in every corner of the plot, but he never appears in person, nor is he ever defined through a name, which adds to the mystery and horror that surrounds him. He has been criticised for that reason for being an un(der)developed and boring character, but in my book it's good writing and the critics miss a lot of Nihilus' flavour and character. Yes, he's undefined, but he has to be - you cannot define a force of nature. And his presence is essential to the Exile's problem, and the connection between them is always there between the lines. I really liked Nihilus - as a Sith Lord he was far more scary than brutes like Sion or Malak.

Plus Force Jump does not always work, whenever there's any obstacle, a tree, a teammate, an enemy between you and your target, anything, you cannot jump. Plus you cannot use your attack feats. Plus Force speed is always useful.

 

And, guardians have too few skill points. In TSL skills are much more important than in K1.

I don't think this is the case, because in TSL there are Lightside quests whose first steps are Dark-sided, and It would probably be unfair to lightsiders if that were the case.

no don't get me wrong he IS way spookier and more interesting than sion or malak, at least malak, i mean he is a sith that really can't control his power and thats never happened before, sion thrives on controling his power.

Plus, force jump works ONLY if you're using a lightsaber, which you won't get until a fair bit into the game (unless you cheat, of course). Don't ask me why, since it makes very little sense to me, but that's the way it works. Then again, you can also cheat there and give your non-guardian force jump through the KSE (assuming you're playing the pc version).

 

And, guardians have too few skill points. In TSL skills are much more important than in K1.

 

Agreed. This is the reason why I find Sentinel to be by far the best starting class. Unlike the first game, in TSL skills matter - ANY skill - they're all highly useful, if not for specific quests during the game, then for constructing buff-items at the workbench. With the right skills at high levels, you can create some rediculously powerful upgrade items for your weapons and armor. A sentinel with high IQ is a definite advantage in TSL.

The thing is, the more useful (& cool) part of force jump is that you can jump & cover a distance, and that makes normal force jump & Master jump almost even. And, you can get a free bonus force jump on Thon's robe, which is in TSL's databank, available in a lot of mods, although if you play without mods you'll have to rely on your luck. Thon's robe also gives a free Force Focus, but Force focus is completely different from Master Focus.

 

Actually for the skill part, you can max out your teammates' strong skills (i.e. Visas has high stealth, treat injury & awareness from the start, max them out) and let your teammates create upgrade packs for you. Of course you cannot create on Ebon Hawk in this way, but the workbench @ Nar Shaddaa docks, or Telos entertainment module is good enough.

 

The point is, there are things in the game that you have to do them yourselves. Persuade of course--and it becomes much more important in TSL; Treat injury is always nice even with the existence of master heal, in the end a life support pack does much more than master heal. Awareness is also critical for some plots. You also need to repair T3 yourselves.

Oh, that is impossible. 1000 skill points means 20 per level, you'll have to have around 30 base intellect to do that.

Unless it is a weird mod or bug that I've never heard of....

Agreed. It's really down to each person's prefered style of playing.

 

I find that the game is easier to start off as a Guardian because of the many feats you get, otherwise battling the Handmaidens on Telos can be pretty difficult. It's not a life or death matter, but it means a few extra XPs. I tend to focus on other members for skill points to help with workbench stuff. The attack bonus you get from Force Jump is fairly good, plus if you follow it up with a Critical Strike you can clear enemies pretty fast.

 

Force Jump requires you to have a clear straight line to your enemy, but sometimes when something else gets in the way, like a party member, and you've just jumped, you will land in front of the blocking object/person (rather than fly over it to your target) and the attack will still register! It's a useful 'bug' in clearing out enemies from a far.
