SD Nihil
I recently upgraded my video card from a NVIDA GeForce MX 420 to a Diamond S120 256MB DDR Radeon 9550. But when I look at the configuration menu and scan hardware it says in the details of the video section "cannot detect VRAM". How do I fix this? I can put all the graphic options up all the way on resolution 1024x768, but it's a little shakey. And if I leave it on 800x600 and put the smooth shadows on the screen gets bent. Doesn't happen on a higher resolution though. And with my configuration report below, what items or other things would you recommend for me? SD Nihil
Someone please respond to my thread. I hate being ignored on here and lucasforums.
samm
You could probably try to turn down (or even off) the Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering to be able to increase the resolution again without getting too low a framerate. Don't worry whining about being ignored doesn't make the people more likely to respond... SteveThaiBinh
Be nice, Mr. Samm. RA-Jeff: Sorry if it seems like we're ignoring your problem, but I'm afraid I don't know of any solution for this problem. I'm assuming that other games (released around the same time) work fine with your card, and you've updated the drivers to the latest versions. Bizarrely, sometimes an older version of the drivers can work better, so that's something you might try. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." mkg
Ok what I want you to do is this. Right click on your desktop and click properties. Then click settings. Then click advanced. Then click Adapter. Then tell us what it says. Then on that same page click properties. And tell us the driver date. Also just to make sure did you uninstall the old nvida driver and installed the latest ATI driver (not the one on the disk they rarely update the one they send in the box) before you installed your new card. SD Nihil
Thank you for responding everyone. I appreciate it. Adapter type: Diamond S120 256MB DDR Radeon 9550 Adapter Information: Chip Type: ATI RADEON 9559 AGP (0x4153) DAC Type: InternalDAC(400MHz) Memory size: 256 MB Adapter Srting: Diamond S120 256MB DDR Radeon 9550 Bios Information: BK-ATI VER008.017D.033.000 Driver Date: 1/24/2006. Yes it was from a box when the independent tech installed it. Driver version is: 8.221.0.0 When I update drivers I did through right clicked on My Computer and clicked advanced>then hardware devices. Pressed each of the pluses to become minuses and clicked update driver. I looked in Control Panel and I did notice this: ATI Uninstall Utility, ATI Catalyst Control Center, ATI Display Driver, ATI Parental Control & Encoder, NDVIDA Drivers, OpenGL. The tech said he uninstalled the old card. I do notice other things in the control panel that long time ago removed. Maybe it's the fact that he cloned my 50GB hard drive and put it on a new hard drive that's 200GB? That's all I can think of why some of these older things and the nVIDA Drivers would be on the list. Should I click uninstall for the NVIDA Drivers? If it comes up saying it's not really there like some of the other things is there a program that removes traces like this? mkg
Ok that is not a good way to video card drivers. Here is a link to ATI's web site ATI drivers. On the site you sect your OS (operating system), then select the sub brand (in your case Radeon), then scroll down to your number (Radeon 9550). Then it will take you to the lateset whitch is 7.11 . There are installation instructions also on the page. Hope this helps. The reason I asked you to do thouse steps in my previse post because if the Vram was not working then it would not show up at all or be the wrong size in the memory size spot. It might just be that the software from the game that detects it just does not see it?
Jedi_Maverick
It's usually nice to make a new windows installation when you change your hardware. I would recommend you to do so and install all latest drivers for your hardware when the fresh windows is up and running. SD Nihil
Installed updates. Game works fine even without v sync and looks much better. But for some reason my desktop looks a little misty for some reason. Also when I did the hardware scan the video area sill had a wrning. However, no longer does it say anything about VRAM, but it does display my current driver as ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series. Under that it says Graphics Recommended: ATI Radeon 9299 or better. And under that it says NVIDA Geforce 4 Ti or better. My games don't look misty though.
mkg
You got to change the resolution of your desktop. When you install an update from ATI they put your resolution at 800x600 which not many monitors are made for that resolution. Right click your desktop, click properties, click settings, then you will see a slider bar near the bottom and you need to slide it to what ever native resolution that your monitor is. You can probably Google your make and model number and you will get a website that can tell you what the native resolution is, or if you cant find it or don't want to you can do the old trial and error. What you do is move the slider one resolution and click apply if the screen changes and comes back try the next higher one. If not wait thirty seconds and it will come back. then go back to the highest one that worked. Also with the driver and graphics warning it is fine every one has them. The game was made more than two years ago. It just can read the driver number or the model number of the of the graphics card as long as the game runs it is fine.
