It's my hope that the entire issue is a ruse to lure record numbers of unwashed hippies into a concentrated space so they can be destroyed by a mix of polar bears, Siberian tigers, and killer whales. I believe I take climate change seriously. And part of doing that is the serious business of gathering information, and talking to devils who make the decisions, not chaining myself to a fence. It's got nothing at all to do with climate change and everything to do with feeble attempts to legitimise a lifestyle of extreme laziness. I have nothing at all against laziness, provided it is honest.

The moment BAA tried to ban the protests, the issue became freedom of expression and public demonstration, rather than the environment. Happily, the courts made the right decision in banning only the handful of individuals and groups with histories of violence or destruction of property and allowed the main protest to go ahead.

 

Besides, this protest includes Airport Watch, which is an umbrella organisation for such unwashed hippy groups as the Woodland Trust, the National Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

I dunno, I have sweet spot for people who aren't all shrivelled up and realistic, but who still believe they can make a difference by attending demonstrations.

 

This is democracy at work, at least someone cares to participate.

That's precisely my point. I know full well that this will be a broad coalition, but the vocal unwashed and incoherent discredit everyone. Do you not remember how pissed off Sir Bob got during the action against poverty thing in Scotland?

 

Don't misunderstand me. I know very well the pleasure of running around like a fool in fancy dress. But I call that live-action roleplay, and I don't expect anyone to take me seriously while I do it.
