Defense Stat Problem

Without any armor I'm currently at a base defense of 23. Say I add an armor with a defense bonus of 4, such as the Jay Shel armor, my defense increases to 25 and not 27. Or if I add an armor with a defense bonus of 5 it increases to 26 and not 28.

 

Has anyone had this problem? Or am I not adding up the bonuses and such correctly?

You have to add in the dexterity factor.

 

If you're dexterity is +8 and you put on an item that only allows +4 dexterity your defence drops 2 defensive points and then is increased by the ammount of armor bonus by the armor.
