Darth Mortis
@mkg-are you talking of that part with the screws still in on it in the lower left hand corner of that picture? So I can just simply put a pci card in it and run the game? The PCI ports are in the upper right hand corner of the picture-the white bars. (If I'm understanding the layout of your PC from the picture that would be around the back in the left hand corner of your PC, there is a recess there where you plug something in. You already have a card in place there, I'm guessing thats your modem). An AGP port would be in the same place but a slightly different colour and longer by about 1/3. If your friend can put in a AGP card he can put a PCI card in just as easily, although its far from hard. The area in the lower left is, from what I can tell from the picture, where the CD-Rom and floppy drive are connected to the PC.

mkg
First to clarify AGP this is what a slot looks like with a card. Okay first thing you do when you want to buy a video card is to get one that fits your needs. 9200se or 9250 both from ati will work but u can find out which nvida ones work if they are cheaper. Step 1. buy a card Step 2. go to the brands web site ( ati.com or nvidia.com) and download the latest drivers. (remember where you put them). Step 3. go to control panle, then go to display, then go to settings, then click advanced, then go to adapter. click properties, at the bottem it will say this device is working properly. there is a drop down bar and it should say enabled, move it to disable. it will ask you to reboot now, click no, now turn off your computer. (if you would have clicked yes the it would restart your comp. what you would have seen would have scared you) Step 4. unplug every thing from back of case.(not inside). Open Case. Step 5. remove the screw and shield from case. insert card press down till it slides in. Step 6. plug every thing back in. put the monitor cable in to the back of your new card. turn on the comp. Step 7. let the comp load when the wizerd says you have a new device and it would like to install it CLICK CANCEL (i put it big because i made that mistake) (also the screen will look werid or distorted). Step 7. install your drives that you downloaded earlyer by double clicking the icon. click next on every thing. when you get to the part of the install were it asks you to click { for ATI cards (basic or express dont remember) or advandced click the basic. countinue with install. Step 8. it will ask you to restart your comp. now it will look normal agian. YOU ARE DONE hope this helps. EDIT: the cheapest card i found that will run the game is at circurt city the eVGA GeForce 5200 FX for $40 after rebates, it should run the game but i dont know how well. the ATI card are $70 and they will run the games pretty good. mkg
When he cracked open the monitor though I surely HOPE this is a typo, considering the graphical card is in the computer. There can be 2 types of cards (PCI or AGP) and considering you had a 7500 it could indeed be possible you have only PCI-slots instead of AGP-slots. there are actually 3 deferent types of graphic cards: PCI, AGP, and PCI EXPRESS. PCI EXPRESS being the newest, greatest, and most expensive.
Organic Meatbag
Hey guys. thanks again for everyone's help. Very nice steps btw mkg! Well I went browsing for some video cards and here's one I'm satisfied with, what do you guys think? (Look at the specs and not the price, as that was one of my main concerns. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814150040 Since money is kind of try, I'm going to wait for my parents to get back from vacation, should be back tuesday, to help with buying a card and discuss the matter. But back to the problem, if I purchase that card will I be able to install it, well my neighbor install it really, and have kotor up and running? Darth Mortis
From what I can tell the card itself should run the game without major problems (This is, after all KOTOR we're talking about not a 3D first person shooter with all the trimmings). The only thing I would advise you to do before getting the card is to take a look on the Nvidea websight and download the latest drivers-I think all Nvidea cards use the same drivers for the same operating systems but the websight is easy to use and you shouldn't have any difficulty finding the right drivers. I'm saying this for two reasons, one is that the reviews seem to indicate the the driver that comes with the card is the wrong one, the second is that the latest drivers may be in a large file. The downloaded drivers will be in there own file, when you have the card installed you just need to open and run the file, it will install automatically. Just a guess here but I imagine that if your friend can install a graphics card he should know how to do all this as well.
SteveThaiBinh
I ran Kotor 2 on a GeForce FX5200, and it works very well. You can't run maximum settings, but you're not on minimum settings either, the water looks good, the fog/smoke plays without dramatic falls in framerates. Dark_Raven
I played it on an ATI 9200 without any issues. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
mkg
The card at newegg should do great.
mkg
I just rememberd that you can go to www.gpureview.com the site will allow you to compare two different cards side by side. Also I was doing some research and you might want to get the X1300 pci at newegg. There is a open box version for 79.99 (newegg has an okay return policy 15 days) I have X1300 agp it runs battlefield 2 (there is a review saying that it will to) so it has a better chance of lasting longer. But if money is tight or you dont like open boxs the FX 5200 will be great.
Organic Meatbag
Hey guys, sorry for reviving an old and dead topic, but I felt I should update it due to my situation. As for playing Kotor2 on my comp, it won't be happening for a while. My dad said that it will simply have to wait about a year because I'll be close to college then, and they'll be getting me a labtop. So, as long as they don't make a kotor3 by then, I should be fine. In the mean time though, I've been saving up a 360 and when I get one, I'm sure I can have a lot of fun with kotor and that as well. Thanks for everyone's help with this though.
