The Named One
Hi all, I've been playing through Planescape and have come across a fairly major problem which seems to be quite widespread. This seems like the right place to ask about it, tell me if this is the right forum for the question. I've just found out I have to go back into the Mortuary. However, whichever way I try to get inside leads to a crash on the loading screen: be it Pox, death, asking a guard... Anyone that knows a patch or solution to this would be much thanked. Also, I'm relatively unspoiled for the story in this so if those could be avoided, double thanks.
Sand
Do you have the 2 disc version or the 4 disc version? Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer. @\NightandtheShape/@ - "Because you're a bizzare strange deranged human?" Sand
Then the patch might help you. Head here: http://www.planescape-torment.org/ At the top of the page there is a link to the official patch and this page also have some unofficial fixes that might help. The Named One
Ah yeah, I already applied the official patch. I haven't applied that patch yet because it says that when you do you have to start a new game? Did I read that wrong?
Sand
No, you did not. Beyond that I can't help you. Perhaps using a cheat code that allows you to jump into the area you are trying to go in might help. I don't know it off hand. Might want to check Gamefaqs. Another possibility is to back up your save game, and do a uninstall/reinstall/patch up job. Magnum Opus
Did you perchance do a full install? It's not an option in the installation program, but you can do it. If so, you might try just copying over the Mortuary area file again. Have run into this sort of thing a lot with all of the IE games since making the move to Windows XP (don't know if that's what you're using or not), and simply copying the problem file from disk to hard drive always does the trick, if a simple reboot doesn't (which it sometimes does). Chances are the file saved in the cache is corrupted. Just delete all the files there and the game should work.
The Named One
Okay, thanks for all your helpful suggestions people. I've tried deleting the cache, reinstalling, patching the unofficial patch, no wash. When I tried to start a new game it couldn't even load from the start, which is especially confusing. It suggests the area file on the CD is corrupted, yet I hadn't used it since i first installed the game at which point the mortuary worked fine. So the only thing left to try is the cheat codes, but everything seems to suggest the mortuary itself is a no-go area with my computer for some reason. Thanks again, any more help would again be appreciated.
The Named One
Aha, solution! I realized I had done a full install originally and still had the old CD files on my comp. I redirected the ini file to them and I can now enter the mortuary. Pretty lucky. Thanks once more.
