October 19, 200619 yr Sony announced its Blu-ray equipped VGX-XL202 media center box a while back and a full review has finally appeared. This looks like it could be the ultimate media center PC with a Blu-ray re-writer, HDMI and HDCP enabled NVidia graphics, integrated wireless, gigabit ethernet, digital TV tuner and twin hard disks. Unfortunately it doesn't come cheap. Sony Vaio VGX-XL202 Media Center PC with Blu-ray DriveThis week sees the release of Blu-ray, the first of the next generation high definition optical discs formats to hit the UK. The format is most closely associated with Sony, but the first dedicated drive is actually available from Samsung. Sony is not ignoring the launch of its own format however. We've already looked at the impressive Vaio VGN-AR21S notebook that features an integrated Blu-ray drive and now Sony has put another Blu-ray notebook drive into it's latest desktop Media Center system - the VGX-XL202. This is essentially the same as the VGX-XL201 but with the addition of the Blu-ray drive, for which you'll pay an extra OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
October 19, 200619 yr I don't get it. Its not that expensive. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
October 19, 200619 yr You don't think a 80% price increase just to get a Blu-ray player is expensive? That's about twice what the PS3 will cost and people are saying that one is priced too high.
October 19, 200619 yr I was just looking at the absolute price of 1500 pounds or whatever. $3000 US roughly. Its more expensive then your average net surfer/recipe computer, but its not even close to a high end system cost. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. October 19, 200619 yr Whats the price range of Media PCs in the US? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can probably build a MythTV box for yourself for about $600, including a decent video card, a dual-core processor and a Hauppauge TV tuner if your choose your components carefully. Add $100 if you want to use Windows MCE.
October 19, 200619 yr My girlfriend paid $1300 for a Dell with half those specs. So the price on that isn't that bad at all. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
October 19, 200619 yr Wrong forum? There's a technology forum for this? Not interested in this in the slightest. Blu-ray systems are overly priced. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

Once thats out we'll see which format wins out, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
October 20, 200619 yr Author Wrong forum? There's a technology forum for this? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I thought there might be some cross-chat about PS3 and convergence devices, but strictly speaking it's a tech topic. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
