Wolvishone Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Okay, so here's the general gist of the problem - I cannot start KOTOR 1, 2, or Neverwinter Nights on my computer. The only thing I can figure is that possibly it's an AMD related issue (a friend has the same issues on his AMD-processed computer, but not his Pentium), but I have no clue how to prove that. Here are the contents of my SWINFO file: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=4/19/2006 9:54:07 AM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.10.427 GameInstallLocation=C:\PROGRA~1\LUCASA~1\SWKotOR2\ [OS] Name=Win98 Version=Windows 98 v4.10 build 2222 Service Pack=Service Pack 2 Status=Pass [swapFiles] [CPU] CPUCount=1 CPUSpeed=2000 CPUFamily=6 CPUModel=8 CPUStepping=1 CPUVendor=AMD CPUName=AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=1024 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=14.69GB E: (FAT32), UNICODE=2.05GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=D:\ Drives= [Video] Video Card Name=RADEON X700 Series Video Memory=512 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=2.0.5757 WinXP Release OpenGL Vendor=ATI Technologies Inc. NVidia cards require Detonator 45.23 drivers or better." Also, the config program never actually closes; I have to go in through Task Manager and stop the process before it will take me back to the initial game menu. I have similar problems with Neverwinter Nights and KOTOR 1, neither of which will launch on my main computer (though my celeron-based laptop will run both). I wonder if it isn't the same problem for all three... Any suggestions? And why does my operating system (Windows XP Professional) report as Win98 in the config program?
Hassat Hunter Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) Looks to me like you need to update drivers, eh http://www.ati.com Otherwise try downgrading them to around a month or 3 after Kotor2's release... And the Win98 thing, yeah, kotor does that sometimes with ATI-cards Edited April 19, 2006 by Hassat Hunter ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. And the Win98 thing, yeah, kotor does that sometimes with ATI-cards <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sadly I tried that before I posted here. In fact, I've tried everything I can think of, including updating all the drivers for the motherboard, sound card, monitor, etc. This issue began after winXP service pack 2 came out. Again, I only have this problem on my Athlon machine - it works on every Pentium machine I know that it's installed on, no matter what video card it runs. I don't know a any Athlon machines where it's working - and we all updated to service pack 2 around the same time. Basically I'm thinking I'm going to have to upgrade my comp to a new Intel chip in order to run this game (sad that my 800 mhz laptop will run it and not my 2 gig tower...). Hassat Hunter Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 AMD with XP SP2 here... working normal. Dual-core processor? Also did you try the downgrading of drivers? ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5. kirottu Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 You had a Nvidia card, before your Ati card? Maybe it This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Hassat Hunter Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I have also seen reports that if you try to install ATI drivers without running the catalyst uninstaller before that the updates would not take effect and you keep the old driver stuff... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Wolvishone Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 Hmm, hadn't thought of making sure all the nvidia drivers were gone, I replaced that card a loooong time ago. I'm not even sure how to get rid of them all now! Good point Hassat, I hadn't thought to make sure that the ATI drivers "blew out" the old ones, perhaps I should try a complete uninstall/reinstall of all video drivers. Would I need to go into safe mode to remove them all?
