Dark_Raven Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Not hard to open the case, stick the card in and install the software. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Darque Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Installing the cards is the hardest part! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> then I'm awesome
Fenghuang Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 To be fair the whole thing's just plug'n'play, and Bok only has to take stuff back because he doesn't research his specs enough. I just find seating the cards hard because some of them are so damn flimsy. I'm always worried I'll break them. RIP
Bokishi Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I do research, just some part is sometimes defective. Current 3DMark
angshuman Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Hooking up all those itsy-bitsy wires from the case (USB, audio, power, HDD, etc.) onto the motherboard is the most annoying part. In general, wiring up is annoying. Installing Windows/Linux is a close second.
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Installing the cards is the hardest part! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> then I'm awesome <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can do that? Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
metadigital Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I think static is an overlooked danger. It will FRY components like RAM as one's fingers pass within a spark's distance. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Which is why you ground yourself by touching the case before you start to do anything inside the computer. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
metadigital Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Yes. Have the power cable connected (there is an earth lead in it) as you touch the case, then take it out, and continue with the "operation". OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Or wear one of those wristbands that you put on your wrist and attach it to the case. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

Darque Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Installing the cards is the hardest part! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> then I'm awesome <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can do that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cards, drives, OS's... I even set up the router here.
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I can't do networking. Tried it once and it did not work. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Bokishi Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Installing RAM is pretty hard to. Always a combination of push hard and be gentle. Current 3DMark
Darque Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 networking sucks I hope I never have to do it again.
Darque Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Installing RAM is pretty hard to. Always a combination of push hard and be gentle. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, I can do RAM too the only thing I wont attempt is a power supply and a motherboard/CPU
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 When I tried it, the computers did not show up on each machine. Everything was connected, everything was on, I followed the instructions on how to do it, and nothing. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Darque Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Did you set up each computer to connect to the network and allow file sharing between them? (I'm assuming you were using XP)
Dark_Raven Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Yes to all the above. Win XP was on both computers. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Darque Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Hmmm, I'm not sure then It's been 2 years since I set it up, and I never encountered something like this
angshuman Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Or wear one of those wristbands that you put on your wrist and attach it to the case. Aye, it makes you look like a pro. I always wear mine when I'm assembling someone else's machine in front of them.
metadigital Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I always think it looks dorky. But that why it is more important to do it. :D OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

mkreku Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 When I got a new computer case (on my birthday, exactly one week ago) I moved everything from my old case to the new one and installed a new GPU and soundcard. That was the first time I ever installed a motherboard for myself. I have, however, built other people's computers from the ground up. It's funny that I think it's much more stressing to build my own computer than others. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
