What's a BIF?

You should try looking at this thread. It may have the links to tools you can download.

 

BIFs are compressed files that keep the game files. I would guess it's like the ones used in Baldur's Gate. They keep things seperate in a neat organized way, like items.biff for item files, areas.bif for areas, etc.
