A "good quick fix" IMO is HUD size that scales pixel-for-pixel (appears smaller on 1280x1024 than 800x600) - if you're cranking up the resolution, you trade looks for easy game play. A "lazy quick fix" IMO is HUD size scales with the screen size (takes up the same amount of real estate regardless of the resolution).
