Best Dynasty Warriors iteration?

Featured Replies

Well, I'm about to (finally) order a refurb'd PS2 and a slew of pre-owned games (I can get ICO and Way of the Samurai for ten bucks, woot) and I want to make a Dynasty Warriors title one of them. I played a small bit of three on a friend's rental and found that it was big Chinese fun and a cool throwback to the old beat 'em up genre (River City Ransom, Double Dragon, etc.) but I'm not interested enough to get *all* of the manifold versions. If five is the best I'll have to wait a while for it to come down in price, but I've got an entire PS2 library to go through so I think it'll keep.

Edit: Obviously since I'm getting a PS2 this late in the game graphics mean very little to me, at least in this context.

It's difficult to say, if you like sound then 3 is your best bet. It's the only one with the japanese/chinese voices. 4 is unique in that it's weapons evolve rather than get found by your character in game, 5 has the most characters and so on and so on. It really depends on taste.

Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

I've got 2,3 and 4, and each sequel just seemed to have all the improvements of the previous one while adding a couple of its own, so I'd assume it'd be best just to get the latest one.
